Windows 10: Windows 7 update disc key

    Windows 7 update disc key


    If I've understood correctly, I'll need to use the key from my Windows 7 installation disc to perform a clean install of Windows 10 on my PC. My Windows 7 disc is the 'update' version. Will the key from my Windows 7 update disc work when performing a Windows 10 clean install?

    Windows 7 or 8.1 key for windows 10

    I have unused windows 8 key, and used windows 7 key. As I bought new ssd disc, I want to install on it new windows 10 from scratch. Can I use Windows 7 key to activate win 10 if it's the same PC, but newer disc? Can I use brand new win8 key to activate
    win 10 to avoid installing win8?

    Any way to use a Windows 10 Key (Either a retail copy or a previous Windows 7 Key) as a Windows 7 activation

    Your Windows 7 key is unchanged, so if you so desire you can simply pop in your Windows 7 install CD disc, install it, and use your original Windows 7 key to activate it.

    Have you done an upgrade install to Windows 10 on that computer yet? What operating system is on it now?

    Update keys generally are fine. Best backup your current install however.

    I'm dual booting OS X El Capitan and Windows 7 using boot camp on a mid 2012 Macbook Pro. I've tried a Windows 10 upgrade install from the HDD, from a USB and from a DVD ISO: all fail to install.
