  1. Windows 7 updated to Windows 10

Hello and good day to all,

This is my Problem and what I need to do - Windows 7 converted to Windows 10 need to do a recovery back to Windows 7+ recovery iphone 5s to an earlier date & then Recovery of Windows 10 to present day then I can get back to updating my Laptop eventually to the Windows 10 (BSOD's) !!!

So I have Some Questions to ask and maybe more along the way to help fix my problems and I seriously need good advice and help with what I need to do so here we go !!!
Let me Explain everything or just read above below the "Hello" line or please kindly bare with me and carry on reading further maybe this subject could be useful to others too with a similar problem as me !!!

I've pulled my Laptop off the shelf from the wardrobe which has been in hibernation for 2 years because i need to fix my iphone so I fixed the problem with my laptop that I have had since 2 years !!! Thanks to this great friendly forum that I only just found a few days ago with a nice atmosphere you seriously know how to Fix-Repair and help people with their PC problems and get things back up and running in such a short time with your quick positive answers and solutions to PC problems you are Awesome Lady's and Gentlemen who take the time to help others and I greatly would like to Thank you all in advance for some useful tips which got my laptop up and running again in just a few minutes after spending weeks trying to fix it myself I just gaveup and left it for 2 years until now !!! However I have other problems now which need to get fixed

Question 1: I updated my Laptop which is a ( Toshiba Qosmio X500 ) from windows 7 Sp1 to Windows 10 in early 2015 and the last current update for the moment is (Windows 10 Home version 1607) because I had a problem with it and it's not been used since 2017, but today I got round to actually fixing the problem I had with it 2 years ago when I had accidently un-ticked all the startup Software modules somewhere deep down in the administrative tools after following some stupid internet instructions from a website while trying to get my printer to work correctly but I guess that it was a scam and they wanted to probably sell me their product to fix the problem !!!) because I could no longer start my Laptop correctly anymore and it just had a black screen and then crashed to a stop each time !!!

Anyway to cut the long story short after reading comments in this forum I managed to get it fixed today and I now need to do a Restore Mirror image - recovery back to Windows 7 because I had updated my ( iphone 5s ) not long ago to the latest update and I don't have any of my 3rd party App's that work anymore since the latest update earlier this year when I had eventually got the screen repaired also after a 2 year hibernation just like my Laptop so anyway I need to do a recovery of my ( iphone 5s ) to the last known recovery date which was back in 2014 to be able to get all my apps working again which where working great until I did an update just a few months ago when I got the screen fixed, I know it's a long shot but I really need to get my ( iphone 5s ) fixed and then once I have recovered it, I then need to restore my Laptop ( Toshiba - Qosmio 500X ) to this moment in time with it's current windows 10 version 1607 ( Providing I can do this roll forward upgrade recovery restore point ) before I continue to do anymore updates. So if my theory is correct I should be able to do all this !!! So what would your opinion and answer be for my theory on this subject ??? Can I do this ??? ( Yes or NO ) and if so could you kindly please just refresh my memory a little bit in a short and simple way of the correct method to use as I will be going from windows 10 back to Windows 7 and back to Windows 10 again and I'm a little rusty especially with Windows 7 now after a couple of years of not using it !!!

Question 2: So my next question is when I have done the above using the correct methods and I eventually start updating the Laptop towards reaching Windows 10 version 1903 taking it step by step through all the updates this way if I have any problems with my Laptop concerning the Graphics & Audio Cards with Drivers after updating them and checking each time that they are working correctly until I come across any serious problems that cannot be fixed due to no more updates for a certain Software or Driver, I could still do a recovery roll back and restore my Laptop to the last known windows 10 restore point where my Graphics and Audio still work correctly without any problems ? I think this would be the best way instead of using directly the ( Microsoft Windows 10 Update Assistance ) Where i could possibly loose my ( Microsoft office Professional 2010 ) which might get uninstalled if i jump any updates or something like that, I'm sure I read it correctly on the Microsoft assistance site !!! so I need to be careful not to loose it. I have been using the Laptop of my son and I regulary keep it updated and it's now on windows 10 version 1903 still with the Microsoft Office Pro 2010 installed but I can't fix the current Graphic and Audio problems due to no driver updates availible since 3-4 years now, it's unfortunate but I did try very hard to fix these problems but I will have to roll back to ( Windows 7 ) it worked great with ( Windows 10 version 1803 ) and when I upgraded to ( Windows 10 version 1809 ) not that long ago i started to have Graphic and Audio problems and I was hoping that the ( Windows 10 version 1903 ) was going to fix these problems but I must admit that it is not Microsoft's fault in anyway it was more the fault of ( Intel ) & ( AMD Radeon ) for not keeping there software and Drivers Updated !!!

I'm not sure if my Laptop will work correctly with the Windows 10 version 1903 because I did read somewhere on another website forum about another person who had to revert back to windows 7 due to Graphics and Audio problems and not being able to fix the problems that they were dealing with probably also due to Software and Driver Manufacturer's not keeping them updated anymore !!! !!! !!! ( I'm yet to find out with my ( Toshiba Qosmio 500X ) ???

I have confidence in myself to try my best to get my Laptop the Toshiba working with the Windows 10 version 1903 using all the possible updating methods with (Windows updates and using the Device Manager) - (Intel) - (Nvidia) etc... for all the updates that I'll need for all the Software and Drivers to fix all the problems that I will Encounter for the latest of Windows 10 versions (1803)-(1809) & then especially the version ( 1903 ) like so many people needing to fix Graphic & Audio problems along with all the (BSOD's) that will be encountered along the way !!!

Anyway I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and I'm kindly asking for your opinion if I can do all this that I want to do and I will need all the best advise and guidance in a strait forward and simple direct way just so I don't mess anything up along the way !!! Thank you in advance for reading this far and I look forward to any help and suggestions that may help me along in this adventurous escapade of Restoring back my Laptop also restoring back my ( iphone 5s ) so it can get fixed and then re-restore my Laptop Forward again for the road ahead towards a successfully working( Windows 10 Version 1903 ) if not I will have to roll back to a restore point where it works correctly ???

Again I would like to kindly Thank you in advance for all the help you can give me with this problem and any other problems that may arrive in the short near future while I try to sort all this out !!!

God Bless you all and your kind hearts for helping me and others in this Very Helpful Amazing and Magical Friendly Warm Atmosphere Forum.

    :)

    Repair Windows 7/8/10

    Repairing Windows 7

Methods of advanced CLI repair were introduced with Windows 7 and Server 2008 that can allow sysadmins and end-users to attempt to resolve issues without wiping their hard drive, re-installing and either losing or restoring data.

I will list the important repair processes I use in the field, at my bench, remotely, for family, etc. that have allowed me to keep a current Windows 7 system deployed and running smooth. Keep in mind this is not a cure-all, some issues will require what is called an in-place upgrade. In more severe cases, a system re-install may still be required. For many it is worth the time to try and avoid that process and I am hopeful that some of you will be saved that hassle with this part of the guide!

If you're having issues with Windows 7, hopefully the below repair instructions will help you confirm OS file corruption and help resolve it.

Spoiler: Windows 7 Repair In-Place Upgrade

If CHKDSK and SFC fail to repair the issues with the system, then the next option is to perform an in-place upgrade. This is comparable to an Operating System Refresh in Windows 8/8.1 and 10. In that it re-installs most of the operating system's files without losing your profiles, data or programs. In many cases this process accomplishes just that.

Time to close the CLI windows and get back into the GUI, unless you want to deploy Windows through CLI. You'll have to source a different guide for that process!

Requirements to perform a Windows 7 and Server 2008 in-place upgrade:
    • Must have installation media that matches the installed OS version and type. You can download that media click here.
    • Must be able to get to the desktop on the affected system to correctly initiate this process, booting to the media will not allow an upgrade to be performed.
That last rule is the frustrating part of this repair process if you cannot get that far, backup what you can and do a fresh installation. Otherwise proceed.
    • Start the process by using autorun or manually running setup.exe from the installation media.
    • You'll come to the installation window, the options will be Upgrade or Custom. Choose Upgrade. This is critical as choosing custom will force you to overwrite, append or wipe out the current install rather than performing any kind of repair.
    • Follow the on-screen prompts, which should be very few for you to interact with. The overall process looks and is the Windows 7 install GUI. Once it is completed, the system will automatically reboot (may need to more than once).
    • After the reboot(s) after the in-place upgrade you should have a fully functional Windows 7 without issues or corruptions.
Performing an in-place upgrade makes sense, and gives you a stable and clean running operating system when there's an issue or corruption you just can't fix but things aren't broken enough to warrant a fresh installation. The point of this process is to refresh the Windows 7 OS files but retain your data, programs, and settings. That is precisely what the in-place upgrade procedure accomplishes.

I should also add that this process can be accomplished remotely as well, from start to finish. I have done so with persistent LogMeIn, ScreenConnect and Teamviewer installations on various remote systems I have performed this task on, RDP should work as well. Being able to do this level of repair remotely is a huge benefit to any sysadmins out there looking to keep a client happy and perform that "remote magic" IT guys are known for.

**If at this point your issues are not fixed, then there is something else occurring that is causing the issue be it Malware, hardware, drivers, etc. Please refer to the OP in this thread to run through some of those tests and diagnostics, or create a new thread seeking help and stating what you've tried.**
Spoiler: Update Windows 7 Successfully Update Windows 7 Successfully

Many of us have or will run into it, the endless hours of waiting for the Windows Update process to actually update or fail trying to update a Windows 7 install. Could be a fresh install, or a years-old install. This will eventually happen to you, unless you run a WSUS server, and even then the OS can get held up. Microsoft has been changing how all supported versions of Windows update, trending towards the cumulative monthly releases. This transition seems to be one of the tipping points on the matter.

Regardless, there are some excellent solutions available to help you keep up your Windows 7 installation.

    • Solaris17's Windows Update Utility
      • Recommended method for most users that simply want their Windows 7 installation updated. Run as admin, follow directions, be patient.
      • Please comment in that thread if you need assistance or run into issues. Solaris has made many useful changes and revisions due to good feedback.
    • Update Windows 7 Manually
      • Manually perform the tasks that Solaris's utility does if you prefer.
    • Update Windows 7 Manually
      • Another source.
    • Update Windows 7 Manually
      • One last source for good measure!
    • Windows 7 Refreshed Media Creation
      • Creating a Windows Image file (WIM) that contains the necessary updates can make future deployments boatloads easier. This is well worth a read for the more technical types and sys admins.
Those links should provide you with some very useful ways to handle updating Windows 7. If you run into any issues updating Windows 7, please start a thread or post in a relevant linked thread if its kept current.

Windows 7 updated to Windows 10

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
