Windows 8.1 Enterprise → Upgrade to → Windows 10 (any ver)

I have been wondering why I didn't receive the free upgrade notification and I read in Microsoft forums that Enterprise versions of Windows are excluded in the free upgrade.

Is it possible to upgrade my Windows 8.1 Enterprise to Windows 10 using the Windows 10 Multiple Edition Installer from MSDN? Am I gonna lose my files if upgrade is possible?

Or is it that...I have no other option but to do a clean install of Windows 10?

    :)

  2. OneDrive app and was presented with a sign in screen with my sky.com email address already typed in the username box, and a message asking me to enter my Microsoft password

    Thanks Mark Harry

    windows 10 missing information

I have Windows 10 on my tablet and on my desktop.

When I go to do certain things, like input data, prepare a report using software, etc. The information is missing from boxes, etc. Just nothing there. It works as it should on the tablet. It does not work on the desktop. The Desktop is a new Acer Aspire
and came with windows 10 installed. I have made windows updates on both computers and using the same version software.

I am pretty sure you can upgrade, but you arent going to get the update via Windows Update. You will need to download the Windows 10 enterprise ISO from MSDN and use that to upgrade.

I already have the Windows 10 Multiple Editions ISO from MSDN.

So with using that as an installer...should I...
    - just run the setup.exe file inside the ISO (on Windows Explorer) ?
    - create a DVD / flash drive installer from the ISO then boot to that ?

  6. No that will not work. The Multi Edition ISO is Home/Pro, not Enterprise. Enterprise is a separate ISO all together. You'll need to enter a new Windows 10 Enterprise key too to activate after upgrading. I've never done a Enterprise upgrade from one version to another, only clean installs.

I already have a license key.

So can you be more specific on what will not work?
    - can upgrade without losing files ?
    - can upgrade but you will lose files ?
    - can't upgrade using win10 multiedition iso ?
    - can upgrade without losing files using win10 enterprise iso ?
    - can upgrade but you will lose files using win10 enterprise iso ?

You can't upgrade Windows 8.1 Enterprise to Windows 10 Enterprise with the Windows 10 Multi Edition ISO. You need a Windows 10 Enterprise ISO and a Windows 10 Enterprise key. Even then, I have never done an upgrade from one Enterprise version to another. I've only ever done clean installs. I don't know what options you get with an Enterprise upgrade. I would think it should be the same as the Consumer version, keep files and programs.

Thank you for that. I'm downloading the Windows 10 Enterprise ISO from MSDN right now.

From your experience, how did you upgrade your consumer version to Windows 10?
Should I just run the setup.exe while in windows or I should create a DVD/Flash Drive installer then boot to that then there will be an "upgrade" option?

Just to be clear with the upgrade, is it comparable to running windows update?

  11. I went here, http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/windows10 Ran the 64 bit setup, and selected the "Upgrade this Pc now" option. Mounting your Enterprise ISO and running setup.exe from your current install of Windows should work. I've seen it posted many times. Booting from install media will work too, you should get an Upgrade option. You do for the consumer version, I don't know about Enterprise. I've never done an enterprise upgrade, not that I can remember anyway. I only run Enterprise on my laptop so I can use Windows To Go. Other than that, its really no different than Pro for me. I'd never know the difference, I don't log into a Domain etc, so I don't use any of the other features..

I already tried using that before (MediaCreationTool) but it won't work because I am using Windows 8.1 Enterprise.

It returns an error and I already searched (google'd) for that specific error and they said it's because it doesn't work with enterprise versions of windows 7/8/8.1.

However, I will try booting using Windows 10 Enterprise ISO once the download is finished.

Yes, but you asked me "how did you upgrade your consumer version to Windows 10?", so I told you. *Wink I know it won't work for enterprise, but that's how I did my upgrades. What else can I say.

    Just to be clear again...
So the upgrade option when I boot using the Windows 10 Enterprise ISO works like windows update ?
I mean like, it would just update my operating system files and leave everything else untouched (e.g. my files will not be deleted or something) ?

If I were you I would do an image backup before doing the upgrade. Your files "SHOULD" be okay but Mr. Murphy delights in striking when he can do the most damage in the least amount of time.
