Windows 10: WIndows 8.1 Pro to Windows 10 Pro update problem

Hi,I have a following problem. Notebook is one with SSD of 128mb and OEM Win 8.1 Pro. Obviously during years I do not have space anymore for updates and Win10 update is long overdue. I have bought 256GB SSD, and installed clean version of Windows 10 PRO on it using Windows Media Creation tool. I am unable to transfer license for Windows 10. What I have tried is to create Microsoft account on original Win 8.1 PRO and then login on new SSD with Windows 10 with same account and try to activate Windows 10 through : Changed hardware recently, but I did not have luck. Is there any way to do this at

Windows 10 Pro or Windows 8 Pro from Windows 7 Pro ?


Just replaced motherboard on my old Dell D830 that I had upgraded to Windows 10 Pro from Windows 7 Pro last August.

Went through steps on setting up new MOBO and it is up/working just fine.

I happened to run Belarc Advisor just to get a snapshot of data for the file. What is interesting is that Belarc indicates the O/S is Windows 8 Pro (build 9200).

I looked at another recent thread here at TenForums and also took some of the steps suggested and figured that maybe I needed to install or re-install Windows 10. I checked the Update/Security/Activation tab and it indicates that Windows 10 Pro is installed, activated with a digital entitlement.

So ... why does Belarc seem to see only Windows 8 Pro? Maybe because of the "maturity" of the D830? I know that Dell has disclaimers at their site that says the D830 has not been certified for Windows 10.

So, it is working, but the data from Belarc just has me scratching my head.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

Clean Windows 10 (?PRO?) install

Hello guys,

I'm planning to get a new graphics card and lets just go ahead and do a clean install aswell. Now I have bought a windows PRO key online and my running OS is windows PRO. Now I want to set up my usb to make a clean install. I wanted to use the windows tool to download the PRO version but its not in the drop down box. I have tried selecting different languages but I still couldn't find it. Now my question is, can I use my pro key on a normal windows 10? If so, my problem is solved. If not, how can I download the pro version from the tool?

Apperently when the install is happening, windows will select the right version depending on the product key version. So PROBLEM SOLVED *Smile
