Windows 10: Windows 8.1 Screen Is Black After Regaining Control

The other day, I could no longer edit or delete my photos, because I was no longer listed as the admin and everything was read-only I used some online advice on how to fix it, probably from this site, but, as soon as it seemed that I'd regained control, my screen went completely black. The cursor worked for about 2 minutes. Then, once I restarted Dell XPS8700, the reboot issues started. Once I was able to get back to my blank desktop,..I no longer have the original 8.1 disk or any way to see anything on my monitor.Any and all help would be most appreciated.

The issue you are facing with USB ports, kindly try the below methods and check if it helps.

Method 1: Update USB Controllers.

To update the USB Controllers from Device Manager follow these steps.

• Go to Device manager in control panel.
• Select Device manager and a Device Manager window will pop-up.
• Double Click on USB Controllers to expand.
• Right click on the USB Controllers that is listed and select Update.

If the above steps doesn't help try the below method.

Method 2:

I would suggest you to uninstall and reinstall USB controllers
and check. Please follow these steps:

a. Press Windows + R keys, type devmgmt.msc
in run window and press Enter.

b. In device manager, expand "Universal Serial Bus Controllers".

c. Right click a device under "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and click
uninstall.

d. Perform same step for other devices. When completed, restart the computer.

All USB controllers will reinstall automatically.

Sounds like the old... windows black screen of death.

I would suggest that you perform the steps mentioned below and check if you are able to access the desktop.

Method 1:

Step 1: Perform Power Drain and check if you are able to access your desktop screen.

• Unplug the charger and remove the battery of your laptop, if using a desktop remove the power cord.
  
• Press and hold the Power button for 30sec.
• Plug the charger/power cord and restart system.

Step 2: If you can access the desktop check if your system is functioning as normal. Also check which update got installed in your system, by opening Control Panel and then opening Programs and Features.
