Hello, I need help fixing my Windows computer.

I have had multiple issues with this same laptop in the past as I've managed to fix it myself for at least 13 times in a row, all related to Windows Updates and how it crashes my computer everytime. I cannot find a solution this time. I had to automatically disable Windows updates every single day using it to prevent it from damaging my computer again. And of course, knowing HP Windows, they updated it without my authorization and when it was working perfectly fine before, hours later when I try to turn it on all I get in return is a black screen. I put it to sleep and now the screen won't even turn on. There is no cursor or startup screen and I haven't even logged in yet.

I cannot access safe mode or advanced troubleshoot options as I've literally tried every possible solution I could find online took out my battery and put it back in, turning the power button on and off, pressing Windows + fn + ctrl + b, pressing Windows + x to try to pull up command prompts which didn't work, pressing f4, pressing f8, etc. The only keys that seem to work are the f1 system information, f2 BIOS information, and f10 system configuration. I am exhausting all my options and don't know what to do. I am not a tech-wizard and don't have $10000+ money to spend like Windows wants me to. I've sadly been scammed in the past by Microsoft customer support and don't feel comfortable to experience that again. I need help from someone that knows what they are really doing.

    :)

  2. Windows 8 failure configuring updates and reverting

I agree 8 is awful! It's not for me though... I replaced a broken screen in a Win 8 laptop that was given to me and I am going to give it for free to someone that can't afford one so they can do homework at home. Yes I took it from 8 to 8.1 back on 10/09/2014. This is what I posted there...

"Great post! I found a similar one. I would like to point out that you may want to edit your OP...

    1. Step 1 should read to disable AUTOMATIC updates, not disable manual updates.

    2. KB2871398 should really read KB2871389

I would like to say that KB2917499 may also be needed as it was in my case. I also had to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter after installing those 2 updates. After these steps I was able to begin my 8.1 download from the Microsoft store. I don't know if it made a difference or not, but I also went into the Bios and disabled "Secure Boot."

It was a helpful post. Thanks!

    windows automatic updates

i have some questions about the windows automatic updates in windows xp pro w sp/2. ive got about forty updates they recommend , mostly for security but i only installed two today. after installing them i found them in my add/remove programs in the control panel, if i add all these updates that is a lot of space on my hd almost 1 gig. i thought that updates just updated files and not created new programs. should i innore all these update suggestions from microsoft?

Windows 8 Computer Not Turning On After Automatic Windows 10 Update Black Screen

Microsoft to push automatic Windows 10 upgrades in 2016

"Microsoft has announced that Windows 10 will be automatically rolled out next year to all users of its older operating systems who have selected to receive updates.

Until now, users of Windows 7 and 8 have needed to register to upgrade to Windows 10. But that's about to change: soon the OS will be listed as an 'Optional Update' and -- from 2016 -- a 'recommended' update that will automatically install itself, if users have opted to receive updates in that way.*Shadedshun :shadedshu:

You can opt out of automatic updates to avoid this, but Microsoftsays that "we strongly discourage this in today’s connected world because of the constant risk of internet threats". You can also change your Windows Update settings to install critical updates but not recommended ones. Although it's still going to be possible to avoid installation, Microsoft seems quite determined for everyone to be using Windows 10 in near future.

The roll-out of reserved updates was initially staggered but, according to Microsoft, now Windows "will automatically kick off the upgrade process once you have made a reservation".

As an intermediate stage, Microsoft says that it will "soon" publish Windows 10 as an optional update, not installed by default, but accessible to all users.
