Somehow I am honestly hoping that the Windows Update might get a UI refresh to perhaps bring it closer to the visual feel of the app store. With all the varying features MSFT seems to be working on based on a user's device, it would be very helpful to see screenshots or video previews of the feature offered before you actually choose to install it.

    Lumia 920 not updating

According to Windows Phone support agent, there is no bug with Developers preview users on 920 or any other Lumia. You just need to uncheck **** on your phone.

So, it may be matter of waiting (days/weeks/months??)..frustrating process!

    Snippet from the Chat!

Basically to get the Cyan update once you have the Developers Preview, you need to not use it so you can get the notification. Please open the Dev. preview App, and unselect the option

    Ricardo D.: at 9:42:41

This doesn't mean that you will receive the update straight after ok?

    ****: at 9:44:11

    I did that already

    Ricardo D.: at 9:45:41

    ok

    Ricardo D.: at 9:45:48

so it is just a matter of time ****

    ****: at 9:45:14

    are you sure Ricardo?

    Ricardo D.: at 9:46:29

  5. Or KBxxxxxxx, with the description "adds improvements to Windows 9 PC's for some users". *Sad

I see nothing wrong with having updates titled KBxxxxxxx for power users and then have an actual name, like we see it now in WU; the point is to expand the description of each update, maybe show screenshots and video previews instead of just offering a generic description message like they do it now.

If there are gonna be many similar features that differ visually and feature-wise according to a user's device, then these updates need to be carefully offered and explained in detail do avoid confusion.

  7. That works if the click here for more info actually takes you to a working webpage instead of a page not found error. That's not always the case though. Not lately anyway. As long as they put them in the Recommended section it shouldn't be a big deal. That way you can try and figure out what they are before they get installed.

But that's exactly what I'm saying: why not tweak the UI and show EXACTLY what it is before a user installs it, instead of offering a link to a webpage. Having all the info needed in one place, at one glance sounds much better to me *Smile

  9. I'm staking my claim that not removing Aero iconography and UI elements from the Desktop will utterly hinder any adoption. *Wink

  10. Exactly the opposite, without Aero it is Dead on Arrival and will be hated like Windows 8.x is. It looks sick, flat , boring, non intuitive and difficult to see. They need to return the Aero 3D components and dump the metro ugly colour scheme and design metrics. One word Pathetic. What the hell have they been working on as it does not show?

  11. Aero has been dead on arrival since 2012 and will continue to be that way for the foreseeable future.

Like I said on a different thread, Aero is wasteful and in an age where battery operated PCs are the norm, such waste is not tolerable anymore. I wouldn't like my PC to be wasting energy just to display tacky faux design that should have died in 2006 and stayed in 2006.

  12. A thing I will be giving them feedback about is removing the notification tray on the Desktop and merging that into the notification center like Windows Phone. Put the system controls on top of the list, show all the first and third party notifications there, or at least give that option. It seems redundant to have a thing called Action Center next to a notification center. It'd be best to merge all that into once place as it can be easily accessed on the Desktop side as well as the modern side. Everything in once place.

How about tweaking the new Start Menu so that the whole thing can be flipped around and show notifications there? Once you swipe them away, or X them with a mouse, it flips back to the new Start Menu.

But yeah, merging the Notification Center and the Action Center sounds mighty fine, too.
