Yeah. But the downside of bouncing is it picks up dust. Makes it tough to get a clean copy. *Smile

funny stuff ,I have actually seen 1 or 2 over the years brought into repair shop I sometimes help out at .that were down over quite a few stairs and the guys actually thought they could be fixed ,it was the women that tossed them that knew they couldn't .lol

  3. It's amazing sometimes what a guy thinks can be fixed. I had a customer bring in a car that was so rusted out I was sure if I put it up on the lift, the legs of the lift would have gone right through it. I still don't understand how he managed to drive the heap to the garage. *Smile

Oh gosh another idiot pronouncing the death of real computers, PC Desk top units I mean. This has been going on for 4-5 years and the desktop is still here, and strong, all those millions that have been sold are likely still in use I'd think.
Their figures, as usual, don't consider enthusiast built machines, there are several millions of us. I've bought 3 PC off the shelf, the last 8-9 years ago. I have since then built 6 since and working on two at the moment. There's 8 not in the figures for one person.

I really don't see those mini units taking any kind of foothold, they are more a niche product for people who have little room but want almost the PC level of performance. I think a user would have a hard time upgrading one or even finding parts to do it with. The fact that many have no OS included will surely be off-putting for a user who wants to plug and play with little or no computer savvy.

I don't do demographics, but the age poll here shows the majority being in the 50-60 group. I was surprised! I'm 58. And I think we're the fastest growing group over the next few years. So you'd think the marketing dept's of these companies would realize that us old-timers simply will not give up our desktops!! I have an iPhone and a Galaxy Tab 3 8" tablet and love them. But I NEED my muscle machine for graphics, folding and the like.

Giving up desktops? Not gonna happen. Enough said.

The projected sales figures really only show a marginal decrease through 2018. I find the kind of declaration in the headline annoying, because misinformation like this has a tendency to steer the market somewhere it doesn't have to (or shouldn't) go, but feels pressured to because of the cool factor/peer pressure/pester power/grass is always greener/whatever.

Although why sales are not increasing I'm not sure, because the emerging markets are currently growing their economies and gaining hundreds of millions more people with the disposable income to spend on computers.

  9. I agree totally. Well, maybe I'm not the best example as I use nothing but laptops, but at least they are REAL machines and not tablets or slates or a phone etc. I travel in my work so a standard desktop is out of the question for me personally. I need the power of a real machine for various reasons and cannot forsee that need going away. I'm sure I'm not the only one too.
