Windows 10: Windows acting strange, freezing, lagging

I recently clean installed Windows 11 following this https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windowsinsider/cleaninstall, thinking it would help some slowness on my PC, and now I am having more issues.My windows file explorer lags and sometimes freezes for a few seconds. Many weird things happening. I went to my desktop options and enabled viewing of desktop icons to move some files and when I enabled the viewing of desktop icons, since I usually have them hidden for a clear desktop, all my open apps on my second monitor minimized and my desktop background picture turned black. Windows acting strangely and semi-locks up.

For the past couple of days my computer has been acting strange.

I would start it up and it works smoothly. Randomly into the session things go haywire all at once.

Windows:

• Cannot launch any apps.
• ctrl-alt-dlt unresponsive.
• Opening the Task Manager by right clicking the task bar unresponsive.
• Opening the Control Panel or settings either unresponsive or just opens a blank window.
• Shutdown, Restart and Sleep through the Start menu unresponsive.

Browser (Chrome):

• The page would freeze. Whatever is on screen at the time is stuck there and I can't scroll. If watching a video at the time I would be able to hear the sound but the video freezes. After a while Chrome would crash the tab.

Downloads (utorrent):

• Download speed would go from 1.5-2 MB/s to 9kbs and just stay there. utorrent would still be responsive though.

The only way to get things back to normal is through a hard reboot.

I scanned the system using Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, Superantispyware AND Bitdefender. All scans normal.

I did an SFC scan and it did not show any errors.

Any ideas?

 

Windows Explorer acting strangely..

Thanks for the thought.

Just this morning, right now, I saw it opened on 'quick access' (fortunately not hanging this time) even though I've tried to disable that so I had a sudden thought and went into the view stuff again and sure enough found right at the top a choice of where explorer should open: 'quick access' or 'this pc'.

So I have set it for 'this pc' and maybe that'll be the fix.





and while I was sticking that screenshot in this post I noticed explorer opened with this date grouping thing again, which I hate and I thought I had removed.... I'll try again...





wouldn't it be good if we could get up a sort of list, like a spreadsheet list maybe, listing down the column all the nonstandards features we've either chosen to implement or MS has stuck in there for us or third party software has put in.... with columns across the sheet detailing what it does and how/if it is necessary for this or that or nothing and enabling us to simply put a checkmark in a cell and have the feature disabled?

Maybe even a cell at the top we can check and have the whole sheet go back to basic default?

 

Random lag spikes

• What browser are you using when you experience a lag?
• Does the lag occur in a particular game?

In the meantime, we suggest you run the System Maintenance troubleshooter. Here are the steps:

• Press Windows Key + X.
• Click on Control Panel.
• Select Troubleshooting.
• On the left pane, click on View All.
• Click on System Maintenance to run the troubleshooter.
