  1. Windows and faulty? drives

    Hey guys,

Ive a question that has bothered me for years. If I have a faulty? drive active, even if its not the one windows is installed on, windows will regularily freeze and crash the explorer while everything is extremly slow. I dont want to hate, but on Linux there is no such problem and even worse, some drives windows will crash upon reading are just fine on a Linux machine, and have at worst one faulty file or, rarely, no problem whatsoever.

Specifically i have an old SSD (960 Evo 1TB) which ive tried formatting, reinstalling, basically everything that came into my mind. Windows is still crashing upon trying to access it, no matter whats on it.

Any ideas for fixes? Why does windows do that? Its been a problem for years since win7, why does it still occur.

    Faulty harddrives

Thanks for the suggestion but as I stated the drive doesn't show up in Disk management. I just tried the Diskpart steps and it's not listed on there either

    Windows and faulty? drives

    How to view 2nd drive?

    Nope, not listed.

About half an hour ago I checked to see whether it's faulty, so ran it as a primary drive in AHCI mode. Win10 installed perfectly, in just a few minutes. So drive is fine.
