Windows 10: Windows Apps after user profile rebuild

Domain user on a domain computer. The user's Windows profile is completely fubar - Start button does nothing when clicked; Win+R does nothing; Ctrl Alt Del does nothing; file manager icon does nothing. Other user profiles on the computer work properly, so i rebuild the user's profile by rebooting, logon as Admin, rename C:\Users\userID to C:\Users\userID.old and then deleting HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\ProfileList\<user> User logs in and this rebuilds the user profile and I can recover data from the backup user profile … except Windows Apps don’t work. Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

 

Repair user profile without rebuilding it

It is possible to repair a User Profile in Windows 10 without rebuilding it from scratch?

My Windows search, calculator, sticky notes along with the Windows button in Taskbar on mysecond monitor all stopped working. MY IT deparment wants to rebuild my profile but that is very destructive and takes several days to get all of my apps reistalled.

I have run the various windows troubleshooters along with sfc /scannow and DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth etc. but nothing fixes the issues.
