  1. Windows apps stop working after ownership change

Hi, I changed ownership for C and Dall files with full privileges for all folders and files, after that all apps, including start button, notification center, volume button, calendartaskbar has stopped to work...I tried every option to repairexcluding system recovery and fresh/clean install. For me isn't a problem to reinstall the windows, but i want to understand where was my mistake. I use only 1 accountfrom first windows installation which is administrator type. In rest, all files and executableslike games and installed apps outside of microsoft store are working very fine, but th

  2. calculator stopped working in windows 10

I figured out a solution that works even when deregistering (i.e. uninstalling) and reinstalling the App does not work. The problem is that deregistering the app does not remove the files, and so when reinstalling the app (whether from PowerShell or the Windows Store) the broken files are not necessarily replaced. Here are the steps I used:
    1. Enable the Administrator Account (enter 'net user Administrator /active:yes' in PowerShell/Command Prompt)
    2. Switch to the Administrator user account
    3. Go to C:\Program Files
    4. Find WindowsApps (the Windows 10 apps folder), then go to Properties and grant full access to your user account
    5. Switch back to your user account
    6. Go to C:\Program Files\WindowsApps
    7. Look for every folder that says WindowsCalculator. For each of these folders, you need to go to properties and change the ownership from SYSTEM to your user account. Then grant full access to your user account. Then you can delete the folder.
    8. When all folders are deleted, reinstall Calculator from the Windows Store. It should now work. (You should notice that this time when you download from the Store that the download is bigger.)
    9. Disable the Administrator Account (enter 'net user Administrator /active:no')
    I hope that helps.

Is it harmful to change ownership of a file?

I'd agree. Try anything but taking ownership, the consequences are unpredictable.

If you can find no other way, then as a last resort take ownership just long enough to add your user account to the permissions. Then give ownership back to TrustedInstaller straight away. The name you'll need to type in the 'Change owner' dialog is: NT SERVICE\TrustedInstaller

Window Media Player and Movies & TV arent working with internet conection

    Hi Carlos,

I realize that WMP and M& TV app is not working on your PC. I will try to help you with this issue.

As Windows Media Player is not able to access the file, suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if that helps. Follow these steps:

    • Press Windows key + X and click on Control Panel.

    • Click on Troubleshooting and click on View all.

Select “Windows Media Player Settings” troubleshooter and run it to check if that helps.

Further, you may also take ownership of the file to check if that helps.

    Follow these steps:

    • Right click the file and select Properties.

    • Click the Security tab, tap or click Advanced, then tap or click Change. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    • Type the name of the person that you want to give ownership to, and then click Check Names.

Note: The account name for the person that you are assigning ownership to is displayed.

    • Click OK.

    • If you want this person to be the owner of the files and subfolders that are contained in this folder, select the “Replace owner on sub-containers and objects” check box.

    • Click OK.

For the Movies & TV app issue, suggest you to post the query in the Movies & TV forum:
