  1. Windows Audio Service causing games to immediately crash

Hello,I am having a crashing issue being caused by Windows Audio Service. I have searched online for a solution to this issue to no avail. Particularly, there are 2 games I play that are having this problem: Microsoft Flight Simulator and No Man's Sky. Both games crash within seconds of starting them. After searching online, I am able to get both games to launch, but only after stopping the Windows Audio Service, after which I can restart once I am in the game. Obviously this is not an ideal solution, so I am posting here to try to find a more permanent fix. I have updated all of my drivers an

Groove Music causing Audio Service to crash

I'm at my wit's end with this one... Spent around 2 hours googling the issue and nothing I came across was successful in solving the issue which is as follows:

Groove Music will run fine on its own, however after a solid 15 - 20 songs, (skipped or otherwise) it stops playing and presents an error stating it cannot find my audio device. When the error occurs, the speaker indicator in the task bar shows a red 'X' and when clicked, begins to troubleshoot. It then concludes that the Windows Audio Service is not running, and re-activates the service after a prompt. My audio begins to work again afterward, however I'm forced to restart any VOIP programs I'm running as they no longer produce audio, nor receive audio input from my microphone.

I've attempted many of the workarounds listed around google, including forcing an audio driver update, replacing my audio driver with the generic windows audio driver, and even running sfc /scannow in the command prompt which turns up no issues.

I love my music, and I'd love to listen to it while gaming without being interrupted by the audio service crashing, as this forces me to close my game, VOIP, and Groove, restart the audio service, then queue up all of my songs again in Groove, reconnect to the VOIP, and then FINALLY return to my game.

I used to run Realtek HD audio drivers, but I've moved to the generic windows audio drivers as many people have reported issues with Realtek's drivers on Win10. My system hardware should be listed either below or in my profile.

Is it possibly an updating issue with Groove? I've not noticed anything giving me notifications about updates, and all of my windows updates since the upgrade from 8.1 have gone smoothly.

    Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: It seems there's a bit of a cue before the crash happens on skipping songs. At the start of a song, the volume will be very loud for about 10ms, then it returns to normal, but if the song is skipped, the crash occurs upon loading the next song in the queue. This doesn't seem to be the case for crashing by just listening to the songs, but its crashed twice since writing the main post; once after skipping, and once by simply listening. (Around 40min elapsed time)

UPDATE 2: Its been about a week since I submitted a ticket to Logitech's Support team and still no response... starting to expect to not get one at all.

  3. Windows Audio Crashes

My audio stops working when ever a mic is turned on.

On login, audio output works normally, however, when ever any mic is used, both audio input and output crash and a red x shows up on the taskbar audio icon.

It seems the Windows Audio service is what crashes.

After the first crash, the audio does not come back no matter what I do until I restart my pc.

I can replicate this with the following steps:

    1. Login to pc
      • audio output working fine
    2. Open sound settings, opens to playback tab
      • audio still fine and also able to play test sounds
    3. Click on Recording Tab
      • The sound feedback indicator on the right side is missing
      • The window freezes, error window appears about DLL crash
      • If there is no connected or enabled recording device, nothing happens everything else seem to run normally
    4. Proceed to follow various trouble shooting steps
      • Some troubleshooting steps seems to get rid of the red x on the taskbar volume icon
      • The recording tab in the sound settings is also now accessible
      • However things may seem fine at first, audio input/output is still not working and playing a test sound fails.

    Solutions I've Tried:

    • DISM (ended with no errors)
    • sfc /scannow (found corrupted files, required restart)
    • Restarting Windows Audio Service (results in err 1061, service then gets stuck on stopping)
    • Disabling and re-enabling audio drivers
    • Reinstalling audio drivers from manufacturers site
    • Using windows generic audio drivers
    • Restarting my PC
As you can see, I've spent a lot of time trying to fix this issue and it is starting to get really frustrating.

Windows Audio Service causing games to immediately crash

    all games crash!

    I suggest you run rthdribl > http://www.daionet.gr.jp/~masa/archives/rthdribl_1_2.zip
Increase the window size step by step and watch your vga temps permanently.
    What happens?
If it crashes, run at stock speeds as suggested before and retry.

P.S.: When your system locks, does the display signal turn off after a time?
Stuttering sound or no sound at all when freezing?
What X1800XT model do you own exactly?
