Windows 10: Windows Audio Service has stopped working

Hello,In May I've got session hijacker malware on my PC. To make sure I got rid of it I formatted my disks and installed a fresh system Win 10 Home. Since then I'm dealing with a problem where the sound stops working and I can't launch any games or play music / videos.In the most recent occurance the event log showed Error 7031, Error 1012 and Error 1002.It happens at random moments - sometimes when I'm trying to play some music, sometimes when I'm AFK for hours.The symptom fix is to either troubleshoot sound issues / manually restart Windows Audio Service or a PC restart if it didn't work.T

Windows Audio Service Stopped Working

For that particular error message, it seems that at least one of the 2 services, Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder isn't running. You may need to check if both Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder services are running.

Follow the steps provided below:

• Right-click on the Start icon on the lower left hand corner.
  
• Look for Run and click on it.
• Type in services.msc.
• Once the Services window is up, look for Windows Audio and Windows Audio Endpoint Builder.
• Make sure the 2 services are running and the Startup Type must be Automatic.

After running Audio troubleshooter error: 'one or more audio service isn't running'

As you receive the error message: 'one or more audio service isn't running', this might have occurred due to the audio services.

I suggest you to restart the service, set it to automatic and check if it helps.

Step 1: Stop the Windows Audio service.

• Press Windows Key + R on the keyboard and type
  services.msc, Services window gets opened.
• Search for Windows Audio service, right click on it and click on
  Stop.
• Restart the computer.

Step 2: Start the service and set it to automatic:

• Press Windows Key + R on the keyboard and type
  services.msc, Services window gets opened.
• Search for Windows Audio service, right click on it and click on
  Properties.
• Start the service, set
  Startup type to Automatic.

Try the equivalent on your system of this (not all terms may precisely match your setup)

Note: as you may have found, a number of threads on this topic are unsolved.

You may wish to consider doing an in-place upgrade repair install if no solution is found.

Also consider the possibility of hardware failure. You could check the card is seated, cables secure.
