  2. After the upgrade, I am now having problems beyond my brain power to solve. Seems like Windows Updates constantly fails now or something with this upgrade is just not working correctly now.

    - Received only 3 updates total for windows Defender since upgrade.
    - All Windows/Microsoft updates have failed to download/install at least 5 times. The only one that installed was KB3081424 on 6 Aug 2015.
    - Todays cumulative updates (12 total for me) have all failed to download/install with a 'Error 0x80246008' code twice just now as I write this.
    - Tried the Media Creation Tool 3 different times. All I get each time was a blue box with the spinning dots circle, No text or progress indicator shows, just a spinning circle of dots then the blue box disappears after about 5 minutes.
    - I cannot go back to using Windows 8.1 now. It said I do not have the necessary files to do so.
    - Apps fail to download/install. I have 9 still posted in queue, retried them 4 different times. All failed to download/install.
    - Wi-Fi tab is now gone on Settings as of yesterday. After running diagnostic tool It tells me there is a problem with it. When I go to Device Manager it tells me it is working fine and that the latest one is installed. My Wi-Fi is turned on.

What is going on here? These are the current glitches I am dealing with right now. Hopefully I will find some help here soon. I am simple-minded when it comes to computers and the talk.

Thanks in advance for those that can help me.

Robbie, sorry to hear you are having so many problems. Here are some suggestions I can make:

    - open an administrative command prompt and type sfc /scannow (notice the space before the slash). This will check the system files for any problems. It may take a bit to finish. If, when finished, it says "no integrity violations found", then your system files are in good shape. If it says that files were found and fixed, or some files could not be fixed, run it again, a total of at least 3 times.

    - You might try the Windows Update Troubleshooter for W8. Not sure, but should work for W10 as well. If not, it will tell you when you try to run it.

    - Try a w10 to w10 in-place upgrade. Download the correct version for your system (32 or 64 bit) and create the installation media for your installation (home/pro). Select create media/ISO to upgrade another computer. You can save the ISO to your desktop, mount it from inside your w10 operating system and select INSTALL, selecting the option to keep all apps and files. Or, burn the DVD and INSTALL that way, selecting the option to keep all apps and files. Don't chose upgrade this computer now.

    - Failing these, you might want to put a fresh install of W8 on the system and immediately upgrade, without making any changes to the W8 installation. First be sure your W10 installation is indeed activated, your files are backed up, and you have all your software discs and keycodes. When the installation of W10 asks for a keycode, select "skip", because you already had W10 activated on the computer, and it should activate automatically.

    - If you have a W8 "retail" keycode, you can create installation media and go back to W8. At the media creation tool site, download the version for your computer (32 or 64 bit). When you run it, select to make an ISO for another computer. If your W8 was an OEM install, you probably have a recovery partition on your hard drive, which could be accessed by pressing a specific key during BIOS POST. You'd have to research what key accesses your recovery drive, based on your computer mfg/make.

    Hope this helps.

    Edit: added MS WU TS

Windows August 2015 Security Update Release Summary

Most updates were for office and security but there was also this one:
Cumulative Update for Windows 10 for x64-based Systems (KB3081436).

Seem MS pushing these before the SR1?

Updated installed smoothly and no problem after restart. But strange thing is that MS Office showed up with asking me to accept term and conditions of use before letting me use the software!

  6. Hi Simrick,
Thanks for your reply/input. I have tried the Media Creation tool again and ended up with the same result, a blue box with the spinning dots. *Sad The other suggestions were too much for my brain to absorb and risk doing harm to the computer. *Confused
However, I came across this link this morning. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/w...210a209?auth=1 After doing this Windows Updates have been working just like it should be so far. I could even update Windows Defender directly! I will keep everyone posted about how Windows Updates is working for me since this fix. Thanks again for your help and have a great day! *Smile

That is normal, it's just a simple reset of that terms and conditons pop-up.
They've always done that with their other software too, for instance anytime you update WMP, etc

Windows August 2015 Security Update Release Summary

Does this update correct the installation issues many experienced with kb3081424??? Or is Microsoft just going to leave those users hanging indefinitely?

Please give us the "new Microsoft" that was advertised. I'm not digging through registries, etc to fix issues that Microsoft should be fixing.

At this point, those who experienced the "Boot Loop" won't be able to get the update, since they can't get into their systems.

Hopefully, some of the advice given here has helped them to get back to where they need to be.

I never experienced an indefinite "boot loop" that others reported, however, it will reboot 4 times while saying "the updates could not be installed... undoing changes." My download for today's update is now sitting at 77% downloaded, so I can't tell yet if this is going to help.

I think your best course of action would be to update windows 10 with windows 10, telling the upgrade to keep all of your files. It will keep your apps and settings but fresh install windows. I was having windows update failures and Microsoft couldn't fix it. I did this. Took maybe half an hour and the system came up clean, updated to the latest updates, and it is running a few days now without issue. It is a better alternative to a clean install. Take all of the ordinary precautions first ...

Ok, after last week's kb3081424 that wouldn't install, now kb3081436 gives the generic error "0x8024001e."

Strongly considering rolling back to Windows 7 at this point.

It's been a few hours now and everything is still running smooth with Windows/Defender updates and all of my apps that finally downloaded. I wish I could re-post the link up in the Updates forum but I don't want to get in trouble with the forum admins. Glad I'm able to help others that sees that link in my post #50. Have a great day! *Smile
