  2. Windows Backup will not backup credentials.

    Hello

My name is Michael Carroll, and I am a Microsoft Independent Advisor. I'd be more than happy to assist you. I'm so sorry that you are experiencing this issue. Don't worry; I'll do everything I can to help you.

It sounds like you're encountering issues with backing up credentials using Windows Backup on your laptop. Here are some steps and considerations to help you troubleshoot and resolve this problem:

1.) Verify Microsoft Account and Credential Backup Settings

    Verify Microsoft Account Login:

Ensure that you are logged into your laptop with a Microsoft account. To check this:

Go to Settings -> Accounts -> Your info. Here, you should see your Microsoft account details. If not, sign in with your Microsoft account.

    2.) Check Credential Backup Settings:

Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Backup.

Under "Looking for an older backup?" or "Back up files with File History", click on More options.

Scroll down to Related settings and click on Windows Backup settings.

Make sure that the option to back up "Credentials" is turned on. If it's off, toggle it on.

3.) Verify Identity for Credential Backup:

If you see a message that says "Verify your Microsoft account to back up credentials", follow these steps:

Go to Settings -> Accounts -> Your info.

Click on Verify under "Verify your identity".

Follow the prompts to verify your identity using the method provided (usually involves entering a security code sent to your email or phone).

    4.) Check for Windows Updates:

Sometimes, issues with Windows Backup can be resolved by installing the latest updates from Microsoft. Go to Settings -> Update & Security -> Windows Update and click on Check for updates.

    5.) Restart Your Computer:

After making changes or updates, restart your laptop to ensure all settings take effect.

    Additional Tips

Use File History for Specific Files: If Windows Backup continues to have issues with credential backup, consider using File History to manually back up specific files containing credentials.

Review Backup Error Messages: If you receive specific error messages during the backup process, note them down and search online for solutions or contact Microsoft Support for further assistance.

    Considerations

Microsoft Account Verification: Ensure that your Microsoft account is in good standing and that you can access it without any issues. Sometimes, account verification issues can hinder backup processes.

Backup Alternatives: If Windows Backup continues to be problematic, consider third-party backup solutions that may offer more flexibility and reliability.

By following these steps and ensuring your Microsoft account is verified and backup settings are correctly configured, you should be able to resolve the issue with backing up credentials using Windows Backup. If problems persist, consulting with Microsoft Support or exploring alternative backup methods may be necessary.

I hope these steps help you resolve the issue. If you still have problems, please reply with any missing details, screenshots, and other important information needed.

  3. Windows Backup will not backup credentials.

I'm trying to backup a laptop and transfer the contents to a new laptop. Using Windows Backup I end up with "Partially backed up". The credentials are not backed up. I get a "Verify your Microsoft account to back up credentials - You need to verify your identity before credentials can be backed up. Go to settings" When I do so I end up in Windows/Settings/Windows backup. On this screen there is no place to verify the Microsoft account you verify my identity. All options on that screen are turned on. What am I missing?

Error: "Click here to enter your most recent credential. Your Microsoft account needs you to sign in again" on Windows 10

    Hi Irish,

Do not worry we will help you with this issue.

I suggest you to follow the below steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: I suggest you disable the third-party anti-virus software.

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If
you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you are done. If you are connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

If the issue persists, I suggest you to uninstall the third-party anti-virus software.

Step 2: Change the settings in Windows Credentials.

    • Press Windows + X, click on Control Panel.
    • Click on the Credential Manager icon.
    • Select Windows Credentials at the top right in Credential Manager.
    • Under the Generic Credentials section, look for the listed
      MicrosoftAccount:user= (Email address)
      credential for your Microsoft account.
    • Expand open the MicrosoftAccount:user=(Email address)
credential for your Microsoft account, and click/tap on Remove.
    • Click on Yes to confirm.
    • Sign out from the current user account, sign in and check with the status of this issue.

Hope it helps. Get back to us with an updated status of verifying the user account credentials for further assistance.

    Thank you.
