Windows blocks microphone in certain program

In Windows 10, my microphone works fine with some apps like Skype.

I've installed Teamviewer and the microphone is blocked, so the other side doesn't hear me.
I suppose it is blocked by Windows.

I opened Settings > Privacy > Microphone with the intent to allow Teamviewer to use the microphone.
This settings window should show desktop apps too, like here:
    https://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/img_5cfaaf0faa9ec.png
where Teamviewer and any other program should be listed.

However, my machine shows only the Windows native apps, like here:
    https://prnt.sc/rgoied
therefore I can't check or modify the settings for other apps including Teamviewer.

Is there any othe way - including editing the registry - to allow particularly Teamviewer to use the microphone?

    Any hints appreciated.

    :)

  2. FIREWALL IS BLOCKING CERTAIN PROGRAMS

    Hi Joseph,

Thank you for posting on Microsoft Communities.

I will be glad to help you with the issue you have with the computer. I understand the frustration when things don't work the way it should.

One of the most common problems when using a network firewall is that it sometimes blocks network traffic that you want to allow.

Please follow the below step to troubleshoot with the issue:

    • Open the “Control Panel“.
    • Select “System and Security.
    • In the Windows Firewall section, select “Allow a program through Windows Firewall“.
    • Unchecking the box to the left of the application name disallows it from accessing network resources, while checking it allows access.
    • If the program you wish to block or unblock is not listed, you can click the “Allow another program…” button to add it. Choose the application in the list and select “Add“. If the program is not in this list, use the “Browse…
button to select the program file manually.
Hope this information is helpful. Please post in case you have any further issues, I will be glad to help you further.

    Thank you.

  3. Blocking and Allowing a Certain Program to a User in Windows 10

On windows 7 I was able to give a user access to a certain program in which I allowed them to use from a list of installed applications in my computer. Now I am having trouble finding that option , I created a account to use the family feature and from
there I was only able to block programs from a certain rating. Have they removed this feature in Windows 10 and if so for what purpose?

    Certain Microphone Not Working

    Hi Daniel,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

    Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Before we proceed I would like you to try the following steps and see if it helps:

Step 1: Ensure the headphone or microphone is fully and firmly inserted into the correct jack.

Step 2: Plug in the headphone or microphone and see if the same shows up in Control Panel.

Step 3: Check the volume property. Ensure that it’s not mute.

You may also follow the methods below and check if it helps:

    Method 1:

    Please follow the instruction

    a) Right-click on sound icon in the taskbar and select “Recording Devices”.

See if the Microphone is listed.

    b) If not, right-click on the blank area and select “Show Disabled Devices”.

    c) Right-click on your microphone and select “Enable”.

    Method 2:

I also suggest you to make your headphone as the default device when it is plugged in.

This may happen when you have the external speakers set to default.

Perform the task mentioned below to set headphones as default:

    1. On the start screen of windows 8 press the ‘Windows key + X’ key on the keyboard and then click on control panel and then Hardware and sound option.

    2. Click in Sound, then a new window will open up.

    3. In the new windows click on the tab "Playback" and right click in the window and click on Show Disabled devices.

    4. Now check if headphones are listed there and right click on it and choose enable.

    5. Highlight that headphones and click on "Set as Default".

Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help.
