  1. Windows boot manager keeps asking me to pick the only drive I have installed.

I just built a new computer and did a clean install of windows and every time I boot I get the image attached. I have to click on my drive then it will launch windows. It looks like it is still in the bios, but there are no options I can see in the bios to stop asking me to pick the only drive I have installed (no there are no other OS installed). I am fairly computer savvy and I cant figure this out and there is nothing else I am seeing online. I installed the most recent BIOS for my motherboard (ASUS X570 Tuf Gaming WiFi) hoping it would fix the issue but it did not. The only thing I can think of is windows doesn't like the Idea of booting to My NVME M.2 but this shouldn't be an issue as many people use their M.2 as their boot drive. There is only one major partition on the drive (excluding the partitions windows created when I installed the OS).

I am pretty well frustrated. And short of reformatting and installing again (which I don't want to do because it is a huge pain) I don't know what else I can do. Any help would be appreciated.

    Partition management

Or at the very least, make sure that your hard drive boot order is correct, because it will take the first writable drive in the boot list to determine where to put the boot loader. As Jester suggested, pop the Windows install disk in, make sure your boot order is correct (or unplug the drive,) and run repair. It's really that simple.

Windows 7 Professional keeps dropping the DVD/CD drive

Working with a fresh install (2nd attempt) of Windows 7 Professional on new hardware. The motherboard is a Gigabyte EP45-UD3P. Running 4G of RAM and an Intel Q9400 Quad Core CPU. The DVD/CD optical drive is a Pioneer DVR-218L.

Here's the problem - after two fresh installs, Windows 7 drops the DVD/CD drive and I get the following error in Device Manager (The device cannot start {code 10}). After the install, the drive works for a period of time, then stops working and I get the error code.

The driver appears to be a standard Windows driver (CD-ROM driver).

I've tried uninstalling the drive and re-installing it in Device Manager but it does not work - I continue to get the device error.

I've also swapped out the DVD/CD drive to insure it's not a bad unit. Same problem with both drives.

What do you suggest for next steps?? Could it be an issue with the motherboard?? A driver problem?

I visited the Pioneer web site - could not find any help or additional Windows 7 drivers.

    What now??
