How do I change my signing in from using a verification code to a regular password?

    Hello,

Thank you for reaching out. My name is ., and I'm a community expert here to assist you with your issue. I understand that you're currently required to use a verification code sent to your email to sign into your Microsoft account and you would prefer to use a regular password instead. Let's work together to resolve this problem step by step.

    Step 1: Disable Two-Step Verification

Sign in to your Microsoft account:

Go to Microsoft Account Security and sign in with your Microsoft account credentials.

    Navigate to Security Settings:

Once signed in, click on Advanced security options.

    Disable Two-Step Verification:

Under the Additional security options section, find Two-step verification.

Click on Turn off and follow the prompts to disable two-step verification.

    Step 2: Verify Sign-In Preferences

    Check Sign-In Preferences:

Still on the Advanced security options page, look for Sign-in preferences.

Ensure that your account is set to allow sign-in using a password.

    Step 3: Update Sign-In Method

    Set Sign-In Preferences:

If there's an option to manage sign-in methods, make sure that the password option is enabled and prioritized over other methods like email codes.

    Step 4: Review Recovery Information

    Review and Update Recovery Information:

Ensure your recovery email and phone number are up to date. This will help avoid unnecessary verification steps in the future.

    Step 5: Test Sign-In

Sign out of your Microsoft account and sign back in:

Test to see if you can now log in using your regular password without being prompted for a verification code.

Please try these steps and let me know if this resolves the issue. If the problem persists, we can proceed with additional troubleshooting.

    Best regards,

    .

  4. Windows broke me . How do I sign in? Verification codes don’t work / no password available

Can no longer sign into my Microsoft account on my Windows 8 phone, cannot download/update apps, sync to skyDrive. Error code 80048823

You shouldn't need to turn off two step verification to get your Windows Phone to work. Instead, you'll need to ensure you use an "app password" when you sign in.

If you turned on two-step verification for your Microsoft account, you will have to perform an extra step to sign in on Windows Phone. Windows Phone can't prompt you to enter a security code when you try to sign in. Therefore, you'll have to create a unique
app password to use when signing into Windows Phone with a Microsoft account that has two-step verification turned on.

To create a unique app password for your Microsoft account, go here:
