Windows 10: windows cannot access \\computername

I've spent days trying to get this working.


I've 2 computer one brand new that I want to access their drives from each other. They are connected by ethernet cables to the router.




This is from COMPROOM. I can access its shared folders but not EMMASROOM and vice versa. The media devices are fine from both computers.


Please do not suggest various windows settings, command prompts, resetting network, flushing DNS, resetting router and all the rest on YouTube as I've had enough. Please if you can a simple fix for this such as a software solution or can Microsoft actually deliver a product that works.


Both computers are set to private, password off and use windows firewall.

Windows 10 - Can't access \\computername but can access \\computername\share

Hello,

Since these latest updates/patches came out yesterday, I can no longer access shared folders on \\computername. However, I can access them with \\computer\share. I get the message "You do not have permission to access \\computername. Contact your network
administrator to request access."

Users that have shortcuts to shared folders saved on their desktop can access them fine, but if they have a shortcut to \\computername, or try browsing to \\computername, they get the above message. Trying \\ipaddress makes no difference. Same results.

NOTHING has changed on this computer - only updates installed (automatically). All it does is host shared folders for a few workers. It is running Windows 10 Pro 1809.

Have tried turning off and then back on File and Printer Sharing from Network Sharing Center.

Have tried turning back on Password Protected sharing and then turning it back off again (we have it set to off and this is what we want).

I'm also told that opening small files on shared folders is taking an unreasonable amount of time. We're talking <100kb Excel and Word files. Previously took a few seconds, now taking 15 to 20+.

Again, nothing was changed on the computer hosting the shared folders other than updates being installed. Nothing has been changed on the network. I'm currently in the process of uninstalling those updates and testing.

 

windows xp installation and dual core am

could someone please list the steps they follow to install windows with a dual core processor and windows xp service pack to. I'm reletively new to amd dual core and i feel i'm missing a step. All help will be appreciated. thanx

 

Windows cannot access \\ComputerName but can access \\ComputerName\Share

in the Spring update, version 1803 MS "improved" the homegroup feature out of Windows 10 in the name of security. It sounds like your problem is related to that.

I can't access my laptop from my PC, though my PC can see the laptop.

If I try and access either one directly, Windows 10 says it can't find the computer.

A suggested latest fix that's working for Version 1803 after it breaks your networks:

. * power down your computers

. * power down Routers and Modems

. * power up modems and Routers

. * power up computers

Try browsing to some of the computers manually,

1. Open Run dialong <WIN><R>, type:

2. \\computername

3. hit Enter

4. in start menu search for SERVICES.MSC

5. right click on it, select “Run as Admin”

6. Find and right click on the "Function Discovery Provider Host" (FDPHost)

7. Select Properties

8. Set startup to “Automatic (Delayed Start)”

9. Start the service

10. Repeat steps 6-9 on the:

Function Discovery Resource Publication service (FDResPub)

Network Connections (NetMan),

UPnP Device Host (UPnPHost),

Peer Name Resolution Protocol (PNRPSvc),

Peer Networking Grouping (P2PSvc), and

Peer Networking Identity Manager (P2PIMSvc).

11. Start File Explorer

12. Type NETWORK in the address bar, press <ENTER>

13. If you get an error message about “Network Discovery” , click on the banner to enable it

If you still have problems making the network connections, here are some links with trouble shooting procedures you can try. Any time they suggest running a *.MSC utility, search for it in the Windows Start menu, right click and select "Run As Admin".
