Windows 10: Windows Cannot find the Microsoft Software License Terms Error, while Inplace upgrading...

Hi Team, We are performing Inplace upgrade of Windows Server 2012 Std to Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard. But when we run setup.exe, below error prompts and we are unable to perform the upgrade. We tried removing the machine from Domain. Same error... Insight on VM: We were having this VM on another host Dell VRTX Svr at original. We migrated this VM to New Dell R650 Svr Host. Migration was successful. Than we tried upgrading the VM OS from Win2012Std to Win2012R2Std we face this error. We also tried performing VM OS from Win2012Std to Win2016Std we face below error.

fixed it with the win 10 pro 1511 iso as a upgrade, took hours of trying things. but to be honest here. it seems the 1511 update wasn't right as the full 1511 iso, so i just ran the 1511 over it as a update, and resolved it.

 

License Agreement Confusion Causes Misinformation over Windows 10 Overreach

Over the last weekend there's been quite some misinformation doing the rounds, stating that a license agreement you agreed to before upgrading to Windows 10, allows Microsoft to remotely disable pirated software (eg: games, apps). This may have caused fence-sitters on the Windows 10 upgrade to decide to stay on older platforms, and for some to even revert to their older Windows 7 installations. It turns out, that the situation has been grossly misread.

Microsoft Services EULA is the one which states that Microsoft may "prevent you from accessing the Services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorized hardware peripheral devices," however, this is not the license that governs your Windows installation. It only pertains to "Microsoft Services" (Windows Store content, Xbox Live, live tiles, etc.) The license governing Windows is the MSLT (Microsoft Software License Terms), and so there won't be a case of Microsoft reaching out to disable pirated software from running on Windows.

Yep, and I'll give s simple summary for anyone that is still confused.

Retail License:

• Supported by Microsoft
• Can only be running on 1 machine per license
• Can be transferred from one machine to another as long as it is removed from the old machine first

OEM License:

• Supported by the whoever installs it
• Bound to the motherboard it is originally installed on
• The motherboard can only be changed in the event of a motherboard failure, and then the replacement motherboard must be the same model or an equivalent model

Upgrade License:

• Support is bound by the license of the version you are upgrading from
• Can be transferred from one PC to another as long as it is uninstalled from the previous computer first
• When transferred support is bound by the license of the version you are upgrading from on the new machine
