Windows 10: Windows cannot open the required file c:\sources\install.wim

I downloaded the iso from the Microsoft store, formatted a 64GB USB stick to FAT32, put all the files onto the USB stick, powered on my new pc and put it to boot from the USB and got that message. How do I fix this? Windows setup screen shows up with the “Install now” button in the middle. Once it says “Setup is starting” (with a blue screen in the background), 30 or so seconds later is when it happens.

Compacting a wim file?

Sorry, no idea where to put this. I just recently learned how to use dism. I use it to slipstream all hotfixes and ie10 ect into an AIO install disc. The problem is, it creates a huge install.wim after 8 index mounts and slipstreams. Considering all 8 images use the same darn wim and files, don't know why it has to increase the wim size by 1gig. Either I need to figure out how to use the same wim.install file for all indexes, or I need to compact the wim file which is now 4gbs with ie10 and all updates to April. Any way to do either?

Open WIM File - PowerISO should extract the windows installation media files.

 

C windows installer folder - Delete?

He can do symbolic link redirection and move the files in it to a different location. *Wink
Better try it out in a virtual of first. Just a suggestion.

Like:
First move everything in c:\windows\installer to d:\installercache
Then delete c:\windows\installer folder
Then type this in command mode as admin
mklink /d c:\windows\installer d:\installercache

Removing those installer files is a bad idea. it might prevent you from updating or uninstalling apps.
