Windows 10: Windows changes my PDF default

For the past few days, my Windows PDF default keeps changing from Kofax Power PDF to Acrobat. This happens whether I use "open with" and check "always or tell Kofax Power PDF it IS the default when it finds it isn't when it opens and, of course, by setting in in Windows default apps settings. Also, when I select Kofax in Windows settings,, it exits settings and didn't save the change.

I would suggest you to follow these steps and then check if the issue persists:

• 
  In the Search box, type “Default” without quotes and select
  Default programs (Desktop app) from the list of results.
  
• 
  Click on Associate a file type or protocol with a program.
  
• 
  Scroll down and search for the extension .pdf.
  
• 
  Double click on it or select it and click Change program.
  
• 
  Now select Adobe reader from the list and click
  OK.
  
• 
  Click on Close and close all Windows.

Override Edge from PDF default

I realize that all web-based PDF pop open EDGE. I will try to help you with this issue.

  Did you make any changes to the PC prior to this issue?
  

Follow the steps to set the default programs and check if that helps.

• 
  Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type Default programs and select the top most search result.
  
• 
  Click on Set your Default programs and select the programs listed in the left side panel of the window to set defaults.
  
• 
  Follow the on-screen instructions.
  

Close the window after setting the programs and check if the changes are effective.

If the issue persists, follow these additional steps and check if that helps.

• 
  Press Windows logo key on the keyboard, type Default programs and select the top most search result.
  
• 
  Click on Associate a file type or protocol with a program option from the window.
  
• 
  Click on the file type or protocol that you want to change and click on Change program.
  
• 
  Follow the on-screen instructions.
  

Close the window after setting the programs defaults and check if the changes are effective.

Make Adobe Pro default PDF program

• Do you get any error message?
• How are you trying to set the program as default?

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

• Click on Start>Settings>System.
• In the left navigation pane, click on Default Apps.
• In the right pane, click on Choose default apps by file type.
• Scroll down to “.pdf” extention and click on the corresponding app on the right side of the extention and change it to Adobe and check for status.
