Windows 10: Windows computer freezes but I can still move my mouse.

Hello I am having a problem that has been getting worse recently. My computer has been freezing, I can still move my mouse but cannot interact with anything else. It starts whenever I use the computer for at least 20 minutes it will freeze up an application. I can briefly interact with the application in it before it completly freezes the entire desktop. Keyboard commands are unresponsive. I have tried to have wait for the program to come back but after 6 minutes it still in that state and I had to shut it off manually.


I have never had this problem until now and its getting more prominent. This is on a desktop, the case doesn't get overheated. I have tried going to task manager and I may have found something contributing to it. I have noted that some my browsers do take like 600mb of memory and it may be the culprit to that, but I'm not that certain as I have ran with multiple tabs in the past with this machine no issues.


I am kind of stuck on where to go next now.

Method 1: Troubleshoot

Windows 10 has a built-in troubleshooter to check and fix issues with hardware and devices. I would suggest you to run this troubleshooter to check if the issue is with your mouse. Refer these steps:

• Press Windows key +X, select Control panel
• Change the view by option on the top right to Large icons
• Click on troubleshooting and click on the view all option on the left panel
• Run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter

Method 2.

Try updating the latest Mice and other pointing devices from the manufacturer's website and check if the issue persists.

Follow the steps to update the audio drivers:

a. Press Windows key + X key and click Device Manager.

b. Expand the Mice and other pointing devices.

c. Right-click on the HID compliant mouse and click on Update driver software.

d. Restart the computer and check.
