    windows could not automatically detect this networks proxy settings


    I am on Comcast. I am on my second motherboard, I have re-installed many, many times.

    when I right click the network icon in the lower right hand of the screen and choose "troubleshoot problems" I get "Windows could not automatically detect this networks proxy settings".

    Windows technical support logged in for an hour or so and could not resolve this issue...can anyone on here help?

    Could not automatically detect this networks proxy settings

    I uninstalled macafee on a new computer as my son told me that windows defender was adequate. Since then I have not been able to access the internet although I am connected to the router (wifi) and it works fine for other devices including this other computer.

    The message on the trouble shooter is "Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings"

    Check to see the proxy settings. To check, open control panel, internet options, connections, LAN settings. Make sure the only thing checked on is: Auto detect (the first option)

    While in Internet Options, you can also go to Advanced tab and select Reset Settings.

    OK, I am back, let me first start by saying....I have internet connection, this was never the issue.

    I still have no resolution to this problem. When I right click the network icon in the lower right hand of the screen and choose "troubleshoot problems" I get "Windows could not automatically detect this networks proxy settings".

    My wife's Win10 Laptop does it, My daughters Win10 Laptop also does it.

    I have a dual boot system, my Windows 7 does not do this....

    When I go to Control Panel\Internet Options\Connections\Lan Settings and UNCHECK automatically detect settings under Automatic Configuration the error goes away.

    Is it safe to have this unchecked?

    That should be set to auto its likley on your browser setting you have it set to a proxy normally a proxy set is either your Anti virus has set it up or you have malware

    My wife's pc is brand new and my daughters has just been upgraded. I am pretty confident we do not have Malware on all 3 pc's. I have re-installed 10 so many times with the same issues.

    I have an ASUS RT-N66R Router, when i unplug cable from router and plug it directly from modem to the pc and right click the network icon it says I have no issues....

    My work Laptop is also Win7, I also have it here at the house. When I right click the network icon in the lower right hand of the screen and choose "troubleshoot problems" I get Windows tested your internet connection and verified that you are able to access some websites. Are you looking for help with a different issue?

    So, (3) win10 machines give the same error, yet all 3 machines can connect to internet with no problems.
    (2) Win7 machines give no error, yet both can connect to internet with no problems.

    Are you using any Anti Virus or security they will set up a proxy to monitior traffic

    Yes, I am using Kaspersky on all 3 win10 machines. I also have it on my Win7 home pc, I have ESET on my work laptop

    Kaspersky Server Settings is checked to Automatically detect proxy server settings.

    It must be a win10 thing, I can reboot to Win7 and do not get this error. I have internet connection, it's been like this for over a year, through 4-5 win10 re-installs, 2 different motherboards, and 2 different modems. I might would say it;s the router causing it, but Win7 doesn't produce this error.

    I think I might have narrowed it down to my ASUS RT-N66R Router. I shut down main PC, modem and router and tethered both Win10 laptops to my phone and could not reproduce this error. I get the following when rick clicking the Network icon in the lower right corner of the taskbar a selecting Troubleshoot Problems: Windows tested your internet connection and verified that you are able to access some websites. Are you looking for help with a different issue?

    Now the question is what settings in the router could possibly causing this issue with Win10 and not Win7?

    I have latest firmware installed, it has been reset to default, and all rebooted.

    any ideas?
