    Windows de-activates on Surface Pro X


    I have a Surface Pro X that was fine for about a month, then all of a sudden Windows 10 is no longer activated. In Activation settings it says it can't activate Windows with error code 0xC004F012, and then using the original product key from the system board, when trying to change it in settings returns error code 0xc0020036. I've tried calling support but haven't gotten far, one thing we found is that the "Software Protection" service is completely missing from the list in Services app, which I suspect is why it won't accept any product key, but I have no idea how to restore that service. I found that the sppsvc.exe file is present in the Windows\System32 folder though.


    I'm actually deploying these for my company and this issue has happened on a few we've sent out, I'm trying to find a solution other than reimaging, if anybody has any idea it would be greatly appreciated!

    Surface Pro X ARM

    Yes, for work needs I suggest going for Surface Laptop 7 or Surface Pro.

    However X is going to be a great device in the future when support for ARM64 arrives.
