Windows 10: WINDOWS DEFAULT APP FOR PICTURES

WINDOWS 10 RECOMMENDATION FOR PICTURE VIEWING IS THE "PHOTO APP" INSTEAD OF THE PREVIOUSLY DEFAULT PHOTO GALLERY APP WHICH WAS MUCH BETTER IN MY OPINION. THE PROBLEM I'M HAVING WITH THE PHOTO APP IS THAT WHEN I CLICK ON A PICTURE IN PICTURE FOLDER IT TAKES ANYWHERE FROM 10 TO 20 SECONDS TO OPEN IN PHOTO. ALTHOUGH IF I CLICK ON ANOTHER PICTURE AFTER THE INITIAL PICTURE IT ONLY TAKES A FEW SECONDS. WHY DOES THAT FIRST PICTURE TAKE SO LONG TO OPEN?

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild


Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

 

Quick Access not searching Pictures folder

Summary, that last suggestion didn't work.

• I moved the pictures to another folder temporarily.

• Then I tried to remove the Pictures folder with option one at Add or Remove Folders from This PC in Windows 10 | Windows 10 Tutorials. Even after rebooting, the Pictures folder remained.
• So I tried using option two. Same thing: reboot >> Pictures folder still there.

• Since there were no troubleshooting steps for this scenario, just for the heck of it, I ran through the restore steps. Copied some pictures into the Pictures folder, ran a Quick Access search and initial problem remains: Searching all of QA doesn't find any files in Pictures folder, running search on just the Pictures folder does. I want to run a global search and find matching files in any/all of the Documents, Music, Videos, and Pictures folders.

That article dates from 2015 and I'm guessing is out of date. I hope it didn't create potential future problems in my registry.

Bottom line: I'm still looking for a fix.
