  1. Windows defaults to old HDD instead of newly installed SSD

    Hi,

I switched out my old HDD Western Digital 750GB and installed a new SSD SanDisk 500GB into my Windows 10 i7 ASUS laptop. It worked a treat speeding up boot times from about 2 minutes to less than 15 seconds. Super! I decided to reuse the old HDD by removing the CD-ROM drive, inserting a caddy and dropping in the old HDD for additional storage. As soon as I did this, my laptop reverted to booting from the old HDD and will not recognize in File Manager the new SSD but it is recognized by the bios. I tried adjusting the bios setting to stop the laptop booting form the old drive disable and provided the new drive as the primary boot drive. This made no difference at all It still continued to boot from the old HDD now located in the old CD-ROM bay.

I then tried removing the old HDD from the caddy and my computer 'spat out its dummy', flashed a pale blue screen at me and refused to do anything other than show me an error message that a vital component was missing!

I put the caddy back in, with the old HDD and the computer continues to boot from this drive and will not recognize the SSD drive.

Nothing wrong with either drive; I cloned the SSD from the WD HDD and it has worked perfectly throughout the last 3 months. I have thought about reformatting the WD drive I want to do this anyway but can't take the risk until I have the system correctly set to boot from the SSD and read the HDD as a additional storage drive. Any suggestions?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Installation to new SSD while keeping old HDD

Installed a new SSD, so my PC now has two drives. Have been running Windows 10 on the old HDD. I want to install Windows 10 on the new SSD. Using the Windows ISO DVD I made there is no choice where to install WIndows 10. I am not sure how to remove Windows
10 from the old HDD and install it on the SSD to speed up boot.

I read where you cannot remove Windows 10 from the original HDD. Not sure if that is true.
