    Windows Defender Anti-malware MsMpEng.exe running off


    I've started getting Windows Defender Anti-malware MsMpEng.exe running off pounding the disk drive after a little quiet time even though all settings say Defender is not active because I'm using Kaspersky. Any ideas how to disable it? I'm on 19042.685.

    Do I need other Anti-Malware other than Windows Defender

    Depends which Windows version you are using.

    In Windows 7 Windows Defender is NOT an Anti-Virus program. Meaning you do need to install an Anti-Virus program.

    In Windows 8 + 10 Windows Defender IS an Anti-Virus program. Meaning you don't have to install an Anti-Virus program.

    Do I Need Anti-Malware for Windows 10?

    That depends on your own preferences and habits.

    Windows 10 comes with in-built AV Windows Defender.

    What the hell, windows defender?

    Yep, I agree with you on that one. If you have no anti-malware software installed and you've turned off Windows Defender you are a threat to the whole public Internet. This goes for not installing patches as well, if you haven't installed patches then your ISP should turn your Internet off until you have done so.
