Windows 10: Windows defender application guard WDAG bypasses my vpn

Hi all


Don't know if this is working as intended or missing some setting or whatever.


Version: Windows 10 Pro

Version: 20H2
Build: 19042.685


Problem: i use F-secures Freedom VPN on my pc. When i start up an Edge session with WDAG the internet connection starts using a "direct" connection and not the VPN connection. Using edge "normally" uses VPN-connection. everything works fine, just the connection is wrong. Is there some settings i have missed or should it work like this.

WDAG - Application Guard

Hello,

We are seeing performance problems on boot and usage of skype on several thousand machines running application guard. The CPU on a cold boot on gen 8 i5, ssd, 8 gig of ram lasts around two minutes and along with all the other services starting impacts
the initial log in time quite significantly. We have also had reports that once removed they are having better skype performance, however we have not been able to reproduce these skype issues.

Is it possible this is a mix of WDAG and filter drivers for AV etc, does anyone else run WDAG on a large scale and have similar performance issues? We considered disabling it but the new office WDAG looks a cool feature.

Hello @dencal,

The bit below from the release notes of Windows 10 build 17063 indicate that WDAG will not be available to the Windows 10 Pro edition until the next build release instead.

For now, WDAG is still only available for the Windows 10 Enterprise edition.
