    Hi everyone!
    I have an HP PC (a bit old) on Windows 10 and the only antivirus program I'm using is Windows Defender. I used to have Comodo but a couple months ago a specialist told me to unistall it because Windows Defender is a good free program and Comodo would just occupy pc memory.
    Lately on my notifications have been appearing from time to time messages saying like "Unauthorized changes blocked: controlled folder access blocked "C://...CompatTelRunner (or) taskhostw.exe" to make changes to memory" (these are most likely not the exact words in English, I'm translating the best as I can).
    I've looked up what CompatTelRunner and taskhostw.exe are and apparently they're safe Windows programs, I'm not really keen on technology, though, and I barely understood what they're used for.
    Some other sites talk about them being undercovered malwares/spywares under the same name of the actual programs and I fear for those, but both Windows Defender and adwCleaner haven't found any in recent scans... I'm playing it safe atm and I'm not doing anything about that, I'm just ignoring these notifications but I'm scared I'm ignoring some bigger problem behind that.

    So my questions are; what are those two programs actually used for (ELI5 please)? Why are they trying to access my PC memory? Should I stop Windows Defender from blocking them?

    Compattelrunner- make it stop!

    Suggest that you use WUMT Wrapper Script (Portable) to control updates:

    Download WUMT Wrapper Script 2.5.5

    Since version v.2.4.5

    You would need to run the script manually to check for updates then choose which updates to install.
