Windows 10: Windows defender blocks synology server

I recently purchase a Synology NAS. I find that the Windows Defender in Windows 10 block synology server. As a result, I need to turn off Defender Firewall whenever I need to access NAS on the same network/ WIFI. Synology Assistant could not search/ find the NAS if I dont turn off Defender Firewall. This only happen in my Surface Pro 6. I also tried other laptop with Windows 10 and I can successfully connect to NAS without turning off the Defender Firewall.


How should I change the setting of the firewall on my Surface Pro 6 to allow free access of the NAS without turning it off completely as I am worried about my laptop's security if I turn off the defender. And it is very annoying to switch on/ off the firewall.

Windows Defender is blocking too much saying it viruses

Hi Sam,

Based on the screenshot that you've provided, Controlled Folder Access is turned on, blocking most apps that you're using. We suggest that you turn it off to allow blocked apps in Windows Defender. Follow the steps below:

• Select Start > Settings.
• Choose Update & security > Windows Defender.
• Select Open Windows Defender Security Center.
• Select Virus & threat protection, and then choose Virus & threat protection settings.
• Under Controlled folder access, turn it on or off.
• Once done, try accessing the apps and see if you can now access them.

Synology sign in

I have a new windows 10 HP laptop v1903. Clicking on this PC shows connected devices. My problem is that clicking on DS.213j opens the Synology hard drive without a password being needed. I usually open the Synology in my main PC by searching under
"Internet" where it can be opened but requires a password. On my laptop the Synology is not listed under "Internet" only HP Laptop is listed.
