Windows 10: Windows Defender Firewall Blocking SSH in Windows Terminal

Hi, I am tearing my hair out trying to get this to work.GitBash works fine, but Defender blocks all ssh requests through windows terminal.If I turn defender off, WT works fine, but it times out on port 22 as soon as I turn defender back on.Once again GitBash works great.I've tried added various rules but the firewall seems to ignore them.Please help this is driving me insane.Thank you.

Error 10054 when using SSH with Windows Defender Firewall enabled

Hello,

I have an issue when accessing a remote server through SSH when Windows Defender Firewall is ON.

I can connect to my remote host and perform commands which output little text, but as soon as have a command with large output the SSH connection is dropped.

I have tried with multiple SSH clients such as Putty, Bitvise and Termius, and the same problem occurs.

When using Bitvise, I get the following error message when the connection is dropped:
"The SSH connection has terminated with error. Reason: FlowSocketReader: Error receiving bytes. Windows error 10054: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote."

This problem does not occur when Windows Defender Firewall is disabled.

# What I have tried until now:

• Reset Windows Defender Firewall to default -> did not solve
  
• Reset Network to default -> did not solve
  
• The problem looks like an MTU size issue (as indicated by the fact that the connection is not dropped with commands with little output), however it does not occur when the firewall is off. I therefore thought the problem could be related to Path MTU Discovery and the firewall blocking ICMP - I tried adding a Firewall Inbound custom rule allowing all ICMP v4 packets, but this did not solve the issue. Either I am not doing it correctly, or it is not the right solution.
  

Any ideas of what the issue could be, our how to troubleshoot it?

Windows Firewall blocking websites

I have blocked IP addresses, e.g. 255.255.255.255, not URLs, e.g. somewebsite.co m.

As far as unblocking, look at your Windows Firewall rules. Do you see anything that is blocked? If you do, click on the Scope tab and see what is listed there.

I do not wish to confuse the issue, but yes, Windows Firewall is able block specific IP addresses. I have about two dozen blocked right now.
