    Windows Defender Firewall - Program exception


    Hi,I am trying to define a program exception in Windows Defender Firewall on clients using a Domain Profile.The program is located on a network share.The problem is that every time the program gets updated the exe-file has a new name.For instance fof20020.exe.I've tried to use wildcards fof*.exe, but that does'nt seems to work.

    Third-party antivirus programs usually have their own uninstallers provided by the software developer. We suggest checking the developer's website or contacting their support team for assistance with uninstalling their program. After fully uninstalling the
    third-party antivirus software, you may turn on Windows Defender by following these steps:

    • Click Start.
    • Type Windows Defender Security Center and press Enter.
    • Click Firewall and network protection.
    • Click Private (discoverable) network and click On.
    • Click Public (non-discoverable) network and click On.

    Let us know if you have any other concerns about Windows Defender.

    Windows Defender Firewall

    I am using Windows 10 on a Dell desktop. This set-up came with a McAfee firewall installed (trial offer, I guess). I uninstalled McAfee (using McAfee's removal tool) so I could use Windows Defender firewall. Now it appears I have neither. The below screenshot
    shows the McAfee firewall is still installed and the Windows Defender firewall cannot be turned on because I'm using another firewall provider. The setup>programs and apps>uninstall routine does not list McAfee as a program to be uninstalled. Services does
    not list McAfee as a service to be turned off. How can I get this logjam fixed?

    I understand that you are facing issues while setting up rules for Windows Defender Firewall. For further clarity on the issue, please respond to the questions below:



    1. Which build version of Windows 10 are you using currently?
    2. Are you aware of any changes made to the PC prior to which you weren’t facing this issue?
    3. Are you using any VPN software?
    4. Do you have any third party antivirus program installed on the PC?
    5. Does this happen with all the apps or only with one specific app?

    Meanwhile, I would suggest you to try running the troubleshooter for Windows Defender Firewall and see if that helps. Refer the article

    Automatically diagnose and fix problems with Windows Firewall



    In addition, if you have any third party antivirus installed, please disable it and check if you are able to provide the exception to the app.



    Note: If you disable the security software or firewall, the system might be temporarily exposed to security threats and risks. Please make sure to turn install it back once the issue is fixed



    In case you have any VPN program installed, try uninstalling it and check if that helps.
