Windows 10: Windows Defender freezes at 0% of progress of installation while updating KB2267602

The progress has been at 0% for 15 mins already. See attached screenshot.


I even rebooted, but this didn't help as the installation started from nil again and freezed at the same point 0%.

windows defender update KB2267602 not installing.





my windows update has been stuck like this for several day's now. i dont really know what it is i need to look for to solve this issue.

problems its showing:
1: the update has not progressed past 33%
2: clicking on update history causes the settings window to freeze.
3: clicking on advanced settings causes the settings window to freeze.

ive looked in windows defender but it cant find any updates. and it tells me that its fine. restarting the computer also dosnt do anything.
anyone know what might be the problem?

Windows 10 Pro, all up to date, except:

For a few days now, Automatic Updates has been stuck on:

Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.257.1365.0)

Status: Installing - 0%

It has downloaded and installed a couple others in the mean time, but still goes back to the same one, apparently downloading, but failing to progress past 0% for installation.

Of course, I have rebooted, and tried again, with same results.

When I run Windows Update I receive the following message concerning Windows Defender:





And when I try Windows Defender itself, I get the following:





The latest definition version installed is 1.245.410.0. Can anyone suggest what might be at fault here?
