Windows 10: Windows Defender freezes my PC at random times. When I disable it, it turns itself back on....

Since I was upgraded to 22H2, my computer has been freezing at random intervals, including when I stream. I finally turned off the firewall and real-time protection, plus tamper protection and found that my PC no longer froze. I have further isolated the issue to the real-time protection. When I turn-off the real-time protection, it randomly turns itself back on and freezes my PC anyhow IN THE MIDDLE OF ME STREAMING!!! I even added a key to the registry and changed the group policy to try to prevent this. To no avail.To be clear: I paid for my computer, not Microsoft.I paid for my Windows lice

If I understand you correctly you are willing to disable Windows Defender from your system. I would like to know few more things to understand the issue in a better way.

• Why are you trying to disable Windows Defender? Are you planning to install any third party security software?
• From where you have followed the steps to disable Windows defender using registry?
• Are you logged in as Administrator?

The steps which you have mentioned to disable Windows Defender using gpedit.msc is correct. If you are unable to disable it then you may do that by stopping the service responsible for Windows Defender. Here are steps which you may follow to perform the
same task.

• Press Windows key + R to open run box.
• Type services.msc and hit enter.
• There should be 2 services: Windows Defender Service
  and Windows Defender Network14.
• Right click on each and press stop.

If you will stop the service responsible for Windows Defender then it will not run till it is stopped. Do get back to us with all the information required and result of proposed suggestion. We will be happy to assist you further.

I too agree with Farah in that the options to start, stop Windows Defender are not clickable. There should be a way to stop the WD

 

PC Keeps Freezing At Completely Random Times

I suggest you to disable the third party security software (if any installed) temporarily and check if it is cause to issue.

Disable Antivirus:

Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you
should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Kindly follow the below steps and check if you are able to fix the issue.

Step 1:

I suggest you to run the System maintenance
troubleshooter and check if it fixes the issue:

Follow the steps given below:

  Press Windows + X keys on the keyboard and select
  Control Panel
  
• 
  Type Troubleshooting in the search bar on the
  Control Panel.
  
• 
  Click on View all
  on the left navigation pane.
  
• 
  Click on System maintenance.
  
• 
  Click on Advanced on the
  System maintenance
  dialog box and click on Run as administrator (Enter the credentials if required).

  Click on Next and follow onscreen instruction complete the

If issue persist, Kindly follow the below given steps and check if it helps:

Run these commands:

  Press Windows key and type Powershell
  in search, right click on it and Open as administrator .

  Type the following command in Powershell and hit enter:
  
  Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers |Where-Object {$_.InstallLocation -like "*SystemApps*"} | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}
