    Windows Defender full scan taking a long time!


    We're at 5 1/2 hours and still not finished. 924,000+ items scanned. I had had the trial version of Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit on for the first 1 1/2 hours of the Defender scan and I turned it off because I thought that might be slowing things.

    This is on a Dell Inspiron Mini netbook. Not a huge hard drive here. The RAM has been upgraded from 1Gb to 2Gb, so I don't think that is the problem.

    Is this normal? My ESET smart security takes a lot less time and I'm sure it scans a lot more items.

    Windows Defender- Full scan taking a long time

    Having the same problem with windows 10. My full scan has been running for over 2.5 hours and is only 1/3 done.

    Have been running windows 10 for over 3 months. Nothing else is running that I'm using. When I do Quick scans, it takes long also and never finds any problems.

    How long does the quick scan take?

    Speed of scan depends on many factors including size of your hard drive, number of installed programs and applications and their type and so on.

    In some case, you might consider run defragment in your hard drive and then run scan.
