Windows 10: Windows defender is blocking an update to my tax software.

Using TurboTax 2023, update from 2/15/24 keeps failing with a 1603 warning-loosely translated "not our software, its your computer". Computer is Win OS 10, 8yrs old not compatible with OS 11, not an option. Went to TT help site, which offered a manual patch. Downloaded the patch, and then the fun started. Patch wouldn't recognise the program, computer says not uploading patch from unrecogniseable source. Deleted patch, tried to uninstall TT program, system says bad patch. Ran virus scan, nothing. Rebooted, still nothing, rinse repeat.I am not comfortable digging into the code. How do i res

The H&R Block software web site indicates that Windows 11 is not supported. It specifically mentions only Windows 8.1 and 10. You should contact them There is contact information here: https://www.hrblock.com/tax-center/support/topi...

Note that the web site I referenced isn't a Microsoft web site but it appears to contain accurate information and no potentially unwanted apps. It may, however, contain ads and use cookies, so be aware.

Go to Settings (gear icon on your Start Menu) - Update and Security - Windows Security

Open Windows Defender Security Center

Go to Virus & threat protection - Virus & threat protection settings

Scroll down to Controlled folder access

Temporarily turn off Controlled Folder Access and check to see if you can use Turbo Tax

If so, from there, you can add Turbo Tax to the list of safe or allowed apps to prevent them from being blocked

Please do not leave Controlled Folder Access turned off permanently

 

Windows Defender is blocking too much saying it viruses

Based on the screenshot that you've provided, Controlled Folder Access is turned on, blocking most apps that you're using. We suggest that you turn it off to allow blocked apps in Windows Defender. Follow the steps below:

• Select Start > Settings.
• Choose Update & security > Windows Defender.
• Select Open Windows Defender Security Center.
• Select Virus & threat protection, and then choose Virus & threat protection settings.
• Under Controlled folder access, turn it on or off.
• Once done, try accessing the apps and see if you can now access them.
