I disabled Real-Time protection from the settings, disabled Tamper Protection, followed guides on how to enable Group Policy and disabled/enabled various settings as mentioned in these guides to prevent Windows Defender from re-enabling itself, YET IT STILL RE-ENABLES ITSELF then proceed delete legit clean files including the likes of Epic launcher and FIFA23 .exe files, affected files are all legit original files & none of them are cracked/stolen files & doesn't contain any kinds of edited .EXEs or keygens, EVEN MICROSOFT EDGE got targeted by it yesterday & got its exe deleted rig

windows defender keeps saying it finds "potentially harmful software" but nothing listed.

I did these steps and the same problem is still happening. It reports (and notifies) "potentially harmful software" but nothing is listed in the "all items ..." list (or the other two lists). After restart, same problem still - notifications but nothing
    is listed.

I have disabled real time protection (temporarily) but this doesn't help either. Is it possible to completely disable or uninstall windows defender?

    thanks

    Do you use Windows Defender?

I like Windows Defender, personally. It seems really lightweight and is never annoying. It just sits in the background and works. I don't tend to run across many viruses, so it doesn't make sense to me to worry about it too much.

I'd rate it on how paranoid you are about viruses.

Completely Confident: No Anti-Virus programs, Windows Defender disabled.

Somewhat Suspicious: No Real-Time protection, occasionally scan files manually. (Third party software or Windows Defender with Real-Time disabled.)

Awfully Analytical: Light Real-Time protection from a third party program, monthly scans scheduled.

Peak Paranoia: Heavy Real-Time protection, multiple third party programs, weekly scans.

Edit: Also, if you are going to disable it, disable it in services.msc or through Windows Defender itself. It may think it's been "attacked" if it sees itself being disabled. Might as well look up a guide to unneeded services while you're at it. There are quite a few that people typically don't use. Remote Procedure Call? Yes. Dial Up Networking Support? No.

Another Edit: I guess eidairaman1 beat me to my edit. *Frown Windows Defender is causing me more harm than real viruses Windows 11 :(

    Windows Defender Released

Microsoft has released the final version of its Windows Defender anti-spyware utility. Windows Defender is a product of the Microsoft acquisition of GIANT Software. Previously known as Windows AntiSpyware, after a two years beta period it's now available for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 under the name Windows Defender. Windows Defender incorporates Real-Time Protection to monitor systems for spyware activity, automated spyware removal with scheduled scans, full integration with Internet Explorer 7.0 and automatic spyware definition updates from Microsoft. Windows Defender is available freely to all customers running a genuine copy of Windows. Microsoft has also announced that customers will each be allowed to report two support incidents for free with Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.
