Windows 10: Windows defender is hanging devenv.exe

I've asked my tech ops team and they have been unhelpful for 2 months. Running from a cmd line the antivirus is hanging on devenv.exe or one of it's child processes and it's not always the same project. devenv.exe appears to be in the exclusion list but the child processes aren't and I dont have access to update the list. Are child processes excluded if the parent is excluded? Is there even a way to validate that the exclusion is live and in use? The reason I know it's defender that's the problem is because I used to have access to disable the engine and when I do so then the problem is not se

some .exe files hang


In the last 48 hours, some .exe files do not execute. If started from explorer, explorer hangs. No error messages. These files run on another Win 10 machine. Nothing obvious in the event viewer. I note that *.exe file cannot be deleted when the system is in this state. I must reboot to regain access to the .exe file. sfc /scannnow shows no errors.

Any suggestions?

According to the reddit page i linked earlier, this is the solution:

• Disable Windows Real-Time Protection
• Disable Cloud-delivered protection
• Copy the .exe back over to the affected machine.
• Add the .exe to the windows 10 defender exclusion list
• Enable windows defender again to see if it would removed it again.
• Startup claymore again.
