    Good afternoon, I am having some trouble with windows defender.In my infinite wisdom I used a program to deactivate windows defender in an attempt to remove what I thought was bloatware. Turns out I didn't know what I was doing and now I am trying to turn windows defender back on but it won't turn on. The Virus & Threat Protection tab says Threat Service has stopped. Restart it now. I click the restart button and a white popup window appears and says an 'unexpected error. Sorry, we ran into a problem. Please try again.'I started my computer in safe mode and attempted a windows defender reg

    Windows defender is turned off and won`t turn back on

    Windows defender on windows 10 enterprise won`t turn on. This happened shortly after i updated it; when I try to turn it on it says:

    This app has been turned off and it isn't monitoring your computer.

    And right underneath it, it says:

    If you are using another app for malicious and unwanted software use Security and Maintenance to check that app`s status.

    Need for a response ASAP, thanks Windows Defender is not active and won't turn on :)

    It's unfortunate that you are facing this issue. Let me assist you to resolve the issue.

    I appreciate if you could answer few questions to narrow down the issue and to provide you better assistance.

    • Check and verify if Cortana is activated?
    • Does Cortana search and gives any output/result on screen?
    • Is the Language and region settings set to valid value?
    • Check and verify if Cortana available in your region?
    Method 1:

    I suggest you to try to turn Cortana off and then try turning it on back and check if she talks. Refer to the steps below to turn Off and On Cortana:

    • Open Cortana.
    • Click the hamburger button in the top left of the window.
    • Go to Settings and click on off.
    • Follow the same steps to turn it on.
    • Check if issue persists.
