    Windows Defender is not on my computer and steps to turn it on don't exist on my system.


    I have been trying to figure out how to disable msmpeng.exe on my computer and on all of the support replies, they say go to windows defender. For me, I can only access the Windows Defender Security Center. When I type in Windows Defender, only Windows Defender Security Center opens up. Every single time I've tried to find it, the steps always lead to something on my computer that doesn't exist. Do I have some sort of Mega Virus? I'm not totally sure what to do because I've tried everything to figure out this issue. I've also noticed my friend with the same specs gets nearly double the FPS as me, no problem, and we aren't sure why.

    Ok just because I like steps i am going to create some steps. Please give me the stamp of approval/disapproval
    • Install system in case
      • Remember to connect SSD and optical to same SATA ports on motherboard
    • Turn on PC
    • setup HDD
    • run blend test in prime95 for 30-60 min
      • run realtemp at the same time
    • While in Prime95 test
      • if CPU goes above 70c in RealTemp, I have a leaky CPU
      • if my system locks up or blue screens, there is an instability in the system somewhere
      • if my system does not lock up or blue screen, my CPU is not damaged and I am in the clear!
    What do you guys think??

    Hi Lizzie,

    Most of the times, Windows Defender may not turn on properly if the date on your computer is incorrect. We need to ensure that the date and time are set properly then you may try to turn on the program again.

    Also, if Windows Defender detects another security program is being used on your computer, it will shut itself off automatically. This is to avoid system conflicts that may occur. You may search your computer if there are any other security programs being used.
    Once all other programs or antivirus were removed, you may turn on Windows Defender on manually by following the steps below:

    • Type Windows Defender in the Search bar and press
      Enter.
    • Go to Settings and make sure that the Turn on real-time protection
      option is turned on.

    Let us know how it goes after performing the recommended steps.

    WINDOWS DEFENDER is turned off

    Hi Ahmed,

    Since you're not able to turn on Windows Defender as well, we'd like to know if you have made any changes recently prior to this issue. In the meantime, you may follow the steps below on how to turn on Windows Defender manually:

    • Type Windows Defender in the Search bar and press
      Enter.
    • Go to Settings and make sure that the Turn on real-time protection recommended option is turned on.
    Same thing with the other members who are having the same issue, we suggest that you check if the service was setup to
    Automatic in the Services option. Please follow the steps that we've provided last
    September 3, 2017.

    Let us know how if you were able to turn it on properly by changing the Startup type to Automatic.
