Windows 10: Windows Defender not working

  Here's what happened, I was surfing on the internet and while downloading some image a pop up opened up with a new tab and it occupied my full screen. Then it asked me to download some file and didn't let me to click anywhere. But i pressed Ctrl+Shift+Esc and opened the task manager and closed the whole browser. Then after two days I wanted to scan some file so I right clicked on that file and there was no option showing scan with Win Defender so i was worried and opened the windows defender app. there i had no options available, it was like my defender was completely disabled which was working perfectly well before. So i installed Malwarebytes premium trial and left the whole system scan for like 3 hrs. It found some 12 threats or so and I quarantined them and later removed them. Even after all this my Windows Defender is in same condition and I cant do anything from it. I just screen recorded the anomalous behavior of the app. I dont know where to upload it. As my Malwarebytes premium trail is expiring today it would be helpful if anyone would provide me a solution. And just to be clear my copy of windows is genuine, i have an original CD and a product key. And I scanned the system using malwarebytes just after removing the threats and they were gone. I can share the screenshots if necessary. Please help me!

Windows Defender Not Working in Windows 10

Sorry for the delayed reply. I suggest you to Set Windows Defender to Automatic - You can set the Windows Defender service to Automatic, Disabled or Manual. Setting it to automatic might solve the problem. Follow these
steps:

• Click Start > type services in the Search box > click Services in the Programs list.
• Search for Windows defender.
• Double-click Windows Defender, and click Automatic in the start-up box > click OK.

Also, follow the below mentioned steps and check:

• Open the Task manager. Here’s a tip: Press CTRL+Shift+ESC.
• Click File > Run New Task
• Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”
  
• Type CMD
• Type the following 2 commands at the CMD prompt:
  
  dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
  
  sfc /scannow
  
  
• Close the CMD window

The tutorials provided are just a list of troubleshooting steps. Use only the steps which apply to you.

Since none of the troubleshooting steps here worked, I'd suggest you do a Clean install.
