    Windows defender showing blocked access notifications but nothing shows up in blocked...


    Windows defender has been doing its job blocking access to certain things but always gave me the option to review these actions in the blocked list. I'm now getting just the notifications that it's blocked access to something but it no longer shows up in the blocked access history. It worked before because there's still a list of things I've allowed, like certain games and so forth. Not entirety sure when it started happening or if that's even relevant but the problem persists and I need help. Please .

    Sudden Defender CFA "blocked" notification. Nothing blocked.

    Why would I get a "Protected folder access blocked" notification from Defender when I open an xls under the conditions listed below?

    The app is EXCEL.EXE, the folder is D:\Documents\Stuff.

    1. I've accessed the same xls in that same folder many many times in the past and gotten no "blocked" notification so apparently it has not been necessary to add EXCEL.EXE to the CFA "allowed app" list in the past.

    2. D:\Documents has always been on the CFA protected folders list.

    3. Even though the message said access was blocked, the xls opened fine.

    I have made no changes since this happened. I did not add Excel.exe to the allowed list, but I can now open the xls without any Defender notifications coming up.

    Sure I can ignore the incident, but any ideas about what happened?

    Turn On Windows Defender Block Suspicious Behaviors in Windows 10  

    The DWORD is set to 0 and I cannot get the process you suggested in the "NOTE" portion of the tutorial to work. Two attached screen shoots will show the before and after attempts to change the Permissions necessary for access to the DWORD change.

    Access is denied. (Note-Protected folder in Defender is turned off)

    Which programs have tried to access protected folders blocked by Windows ransomware defender?

    You can see the list of recently blocked apps in Windows Defender settings.

    To see the list of apps that are blocked, click on the Add an allowed app button, and click Recently blocked apps.
