Windows 10: Windows Defender suddenly freezes the whole PC, high CPU usage during 3-5 minutes.

I have an issue where Defender suddenly uses all resources available msmpeng.exe CPU>90% and freezes the whole PC. This lasts about 3-5 minutes and occurs 2 or 3 times a day at different periods, usually once in the morning and another run in the middle of the afternoon. I did not notice a pattern in the occurrences or whether this was bound to a particular application. When I have a "freeze", the PC becomes totally unresponsive.


I did run a mpcmdrun -getfiles after one occurrence such that I have the complete logs and will happily send it to someone from Microsoft if required. I did have a look at the different files not the ETLs though and could not find anything suspect that could me a clue about the reasons behind these sudden peaks. I have a restricted "admin" access on this machine and can not decrease affinity or priority of this process.

ntoskrnl.exe causing high cpu usage

It is completely random when it causes high CPU usage. It dosen't (as far as I can see) take up much memory, it just causes high CPU usage.

It spikes to about 20 - 90 % and stays like that for a second or so and causes my computer to freeze during that time. It can happen often, like every 5-10 minutes and sometimes it can go about 30 minutes. I do not recieve any error when this is happening.

 

How to reduce Windows Defender and Google Chrome CPU Usage to the minimum?

My PC runs slow.

When I click on Task Manager, I always see a High CPU usage from Windows Defender and Google Chrome.

Any suggestion to reduce Windows Defender and Google Chrome CPU Usage to the minimum?

High CPU usage


Done a full scan with ESET Smart Security and got nothing so that's good. After 10 mins of searching for updates I finally got an error: 0x800705b4 which is strange cause it is related to Defender and that is disabled by ESET. So now I have to deal with that I guess *Sad First time I ever had that error.
My screen is not big enough to display the long list in process tab and I also opened the 3 that had the processes inside them. Attached in this reply are 5 Processes pics for you to view. I will post another reply with the other 3. Greatly appreciate if you can see anything there that should not be there.
