Windows 10: Windows defender

I have tried EVERY possible solution found on the interwebs to get Windows Defender to open and run, with absolutely no luck/


I get the 'you need an app to open warning'.


This is the most annoying delema I have run into.


BTW, it has NEVER worked even with the initial install.


It would be nice for Microsoft to come up with a solution to this very annoying problem as there are a multitude of user that have posted about this problem.


The rest of the OS seems to operate just fine and dandy.


The LAST thing I want to do is a clean install. Remind me of the XP days, but at least back then you could do a 'refresh' install from install media and not lose anything.


If you got any answer or some kind of registry script that can fix this, it would be appreciated.

Windows Defender problem

Hi Ernst,

To troubleshoot this issue, we suggest that you check the Windows Defender service if it's running. If you are using a third party spyware/malware program, it may disable the Windows Defender service. To do this, please follow the steps below:

• Press Windows + R key.
• Type services.msc.
• Right-click Windows Defender service and click
  Start.

Let us know the result.

Windows update and windows defender issues

We suggest you to avoid installing any cleaner or anti-virus software that may interrupt the function of Windows Defender. Make sure that Windows Defender is always on. To do this follow these steps:

• On the Start menu, type Windows Defender and hit enter.
  
• Click Settings.
  
• Turn Real-time protection on.

We also recommend you to install the latest update for Windows Defender.
