    Windows Defender


    The Windows Defender shows in the System Taskbar a red crossed circle in the lower right part of the icon.
    The virus definitions are up to date and after a scan there are no virusses found.
    settings: Real-time protection, Cloud-based protection, Automatic sample submission are On.
    I use Windows 10 Home Edition with the latest updates installed.
    What causes this red cross in the Defender icon (I didn't see it before)?

    Windows Defender

    Right click on the icon and select open. In the window which opens you should see the reason for the red cross. It could be a performance and health related issue.

    a full scan , no virusses found and the icon changed to a green checkmark.
