Windows 10: Windows desktop everything dissapeared. No restore back up, progs like recuva find nothing

I think its all gone but had to ask. Is there any tricky way to recover missing desktop files. I think, although i'm not sure a windows update happened after iwent to sleep. I woke up to a message "recycle bin corrupt something something" And it didnt occur to me but at some point i noticed all my desktop stuff had vanished. No trace of it on any shadow copies left by the last win 10 updates, no trace of files using progs like recuva and easeus. Not on cloud no where. 10 years of thoughts tunes and poems, a spreadsheet of all films watched well over 500 with my comments and lots of pictures of dad. all gone. god knows what else thats the immediate stuff that came to mind descent.

Windows XP PRO error after restore

System restore is handy when it works like it did for me 2 days ago saving the need to reinstall all of my software as well as windows, id suggest using norton Ghost 12 for an excellent system restore feature.

 

icons on desktop dissapeared

Hi,

I think you are right clicking from the Start menu desktop and I suggest you to right click from the conventional desktop not the desktop you see when you press the Start menu. And perform the actions. You may aslo drag and drop the applications
as suggested, to do so,

• 
  Click on the Start menu.
  
• 
  Select All Apps.
  
• 
  Select the apps you want to in to the desktop and drag the icons to the desktop.

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect


In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.

1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination
   
   
   
4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
5. Boot up with your new HD.
