    Windows desktop freezes when put to sleep


    Windows 10 Pro Version 1909 Build 18363.535

    Occurs on both Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Ultra and Master motherboards both with latest BIOS and boot with optimized defaults

    Intel i9-9900K CPU

    GSkill 16GB memory: F4-3600C16D-16GTRS or F4-3400C16D-16GTZ

    Optane 280GB 900P SSD


    Typical scenario: Power on system, put in sleep mode successful, wake successful, put into sleep mode system freezes with black screen-motherboard RGB lights on and all fans running, recover by pressing Reset switch or power off power supply.


    Gigabyte Support: no solution-motherboard may be defective. Microsoft Support: Do In-place upgrade Windows 10.


    My trouble shooting: 1 In preparation for fresh install I clone the Optane SSD to a WD hard drive. On verify clone, I discover cloned drive can be put through multiple sleep/wake cycles successfully. 2 I set msconfig of Windows on Optane drive to "Diagnostic startup". On arrival at windows desktop, I discover that I can put system through multiple sleep/wake cycles successfully.


    It seems to be Windows 10 problem, but where do I go from here?

    Windows boots to the desktop then freezes

    Yeah...I went to google and got the F8...lol*Stick Out Tongue Windows desktop freezes when put to sleep :p....thxxx

    It boots up in safe mode and seems to work fine. Now I just need to figure out what's causing windows to freeze up befor it fully loads in normal start up operation.

    Any suggestions where I might start ?

    In order for us to find out what causes your desktop to freeze after logging in, we would like to gather more information:

    • Did you make any recent changes on your computer prior to this issue?
    • What other troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
    • When the computer freezes, do you get an error message?

    after putting my desktop to sleep the mouse and keyboard are no longer active

    Outdated drivers may be one of the possible causes why your mouse and keyboard is not working after putting your desktop from sleep. To assist you better, we'd like to gather more information:

    • Have you made any recent changes prior to this issue?
    • Have you tried updating your drivers?
    • What troubleshooting steps have you done so far?

    In the meantime, we suggest that you check for the latest update for the drivers.
