  1. "Windows detected a hard disk problem" error message

I just began getting this error yesterday. *cry What is the likelihood that another issue besides a failing hard drive is causing error? Secondly, I've already purchased a new hard drive as a precaution. What is the fastest/easiest way to backup/clone this drive?

    :)

  2. Awkward message on sign on

On switching on a message "Windows detected a hard disk problem" keeps coming up. I have followed the instructions by backing up. The Hard disk has been checked several times using "tools" and is error free. This only started after downloading Windows

  3. Error message "Windows detected a hard disk problem"

    Hi Kiran,

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community.

We regret the inconvenience caused to you. Let me assist you.

If you receive a warning the hard drive is failing, most people recommend getting a new hard drive. You can keep using the hard drive, but you’re risking a system could crash at any time. Make sure to back up your files first. Further you may also
run a Check disk on the computer.

    Method 1:

You can perform a check disk to spot any error in your hard disk. To do so you can follow the steps below:

Note: Restart the system before the scan

    1. Right click on the Start button and select
    Command prompt (Admin)

    2. Type “chkdsk” and press Enter.

    3. This will take a couple of minutes, once done check the errors if displayed.

    4. If the hard disk is SCSI, check for problems between the SCSI controller and the disk.

Disclaimer: When you run the check disk, there are chances of losing data so you can take a backup before running check disk.

The issue might also be caused due to corruption in system files on the computer. Try running a System file checker scan.

    Method 2:

I suggest you to run System File Checker scan and check if there are any system files missing or got corrupted.

    Summary

System file check is a utility built into the Operating System that will check for system file corruption the
sfc /scannow command (System File Check) scans the integrity of all protected operating system files and replaces incorrect, corrupted, changed, or damaged versions with the correct versions where possible.

I suggest you to try the steps provided, in the link below in order to run SFC scan on your computer.

System file check (SFC) Scan and Repair System Files & DISM to fix things SFC cannot

Hope this information is helpful. Please do let us know if you need further assistance, we’ll be glad to assist you.

    Hello,

Please open an elevated command prompt.
When you have the command promt open please enter the following command:
    sfc /scannow and press enter.
After the scan is 100% and the scan did repair files please restart your computer.

  5. I would shut down the machine and pull the drive.

The more you use the drive, the greater the chance for corruption or damage.

Do a clean install when you get the new drive installed

You can put the old drive in an enclosure to back it up or try to recover it while it's out of service.

Don't clone the old HD onto the new HD, all the errors will "travel" from old to new. If you desire to attempt full image backup of OS and Data partitions using Macrium Reflect free or pay-for, make the full image via Intelligent Copy. I believe you can verify the images saved to the new HD. For the long run, I recommend buying a usb external HD and making routine backups of your internal HD onto the external HD.

  8. "Windows detected a hard disk problem" error message

I'm backing up files now onto an external.

Question: I had installed Windows 10 during the free period. Now that it has elapsed, will I now have to pay?

  9. It's good to have a backup or two *Wink

You can install Windows 10 as many times as you need on the same machine, as long as it was activated.
You do not have to pay for a new license unless you're going to install Windows on a different machine
